These stories are gold guys!  Thanks for contributing.

It was a very cold rainy morning and the 1600GT and I were somewhere in Richmond in peak hour traffic on the way to work (Douglas HiFi in Bourke Street if you remember it - big tape recorder reels on the front of the building).  I switched the wipers to high speed as the rain became heavier, as you do, <I'm remembering how bad Capri wipers are compared to today's cars> when the driver's wiper arm just disappeared from the windscreen!  Next, the car stalls and smoke starts to appear from around the dashboard! DON'T PANIC - open the bonnet and frantically attempt to pull the battery terminal off to the sound of car horns and abuse from the tram driver!

Turns out that the splined boss on the end of the wiper pivot on the car exterior fell off allowing the wiper crank arm to merrily munch into the wires behind the instrument cluster and short out the ignition circuit that IS NOT protected by any fuses.

Seems a common problem so check yours if you expect to use your wipers.  The boss is just pressed onto the wiper pivot axle and seems to work loose over time.  Better still, fit some fuses to your ignition and accessory power feeds just in case.  Aussie MK1 Capris had 6 fuses for the lighting circuits (nice) but no protection for the other circuits.  Go figure.  I think I read that MK1 Cortinas had no fuses at all!

Only last year driving my White V6 Auto home from work late waiting for a NBN installer that did not show I came down a hill to some tight bends. The car shutdown with nowhere to go but half a meter of mud and grime with half the car on the road. Right on dusk with semi trailers and worse Prado drivers driving past it an 80km road. One failing these cars have is no hazards so I just put the right blinker on with bonnet open. Looking with no clue as to what happened.
Fortunately their are still great people in this world and two cars stopped one behind and one in front a husband and wife in separate cars and they turned on their hazards.
You can see how bad drivers have become when they only see the incident 20m before they hit something as semi drivers are being forced off the road by idiots.
We looked for spark and fuel. Fuel Ok but no spark. Fortunately hubby had an electrical tester so we delved further but all indications were nothing was wrong. Then I held the dizzy and the whole top with rotor came off in my hand.
We found that the advance weights had come off and shattered the alloy casing.
So called NRMA with emergency pick up with a tow truck. We had been there an hour already. The wife left to take the children home and this precious man waited with me and his hazards for two hours till the tow showed insisting he would not leave as it was to unsafe.
Tow showed up and all was good. He left with a hug from me but probably didn’t expect that.
Two months ago I came across a boat with a flat wheel with grandparents and middle aged driver and wife half on the road and they flagged me down. They had no spare wheel, no wheel brace and no jack. It’s a 90km zone with little to no verge on the side. I parked behind with my hazards ( in my truck not Capri) and insisted they drive further out of harms way. My tyre stuff wouldn’t work so I waited with them for near on two hours in 40 degree heat until their tow showed up.
When you see someone in need of a hand do it because you know if you need one you hope you find it.
Got a dizzy of JR so it’s all good now. But oil and check those advance weights even though you can’t see them.

My very first Capri, someone had installed a CD player prior to me buying and one night driving home from work decided to catch on fire. Had black smoke billowing out from the dash. Lucky I had half a bottle of cool drink so had to shake it up and lucky was just enough in there to put it out.. fair to say CD player was taken out pretty quick after that

I was driving through the polly farmer tunnel (in Perth) in my old white 1600 about 12 years ago. Had a few mates in the car and the music was blaring. Suddenly I lost drive. The engine was running but still no drive.
Suddenly the back of the car dropped to the ground - turns out the half shaft had come free from the diff and spat the whole back driver side wheel out - quite an experience.

In my town they have an annual EH Holden car show.

I dont mind any old cars so use it as an excuse to get out the old Capri for a run

Town was busy so the only car park I could find was in front of the pub in the main street

After having a look around the show I went back to my capri only to find the pub full of Holden fans from the show

I have spent a lot of time and money trying to get my old Capri to start a little better but on this occasion it let me down

So to the cheers from the Holden crowd at the pub I stopped the traffic so I could push her out onto the main street and clutch start it......

.... the return wire for the coil swinging with the G force contacts an extractor pipe .....

Know the feeling.
Scooting down thru Moss Vale and Kangaroo Valley NSW on a club run.  Great drive but the road is a bit lumpy and bumpy.
The V6 starts cutting in and out, with no clear pattern.  Manage to struggle to our overnight accommodation.
In the light of a new day, a from-first-principles electrical check discovers the ignition circuit feed to the starter has broken the electrical connector tongue/spade off at the solenoid case, and this is waving around and occasionally shorting out the circuit ..... on the extractors.

How many of you have a soldering iron in your tool box?
5min job to fix, 2.5hrs to borrow a soldering iron from a neighbor.
