Right near the top of the list of Dumb Things I Have Done was get an immobiliser installed in the Mk2.

Its an Autowatch 674 with remotes.

It stopped working about 2 days after it was installed (about 18 months ago) and I was able to use the car as normal, but after replacing the heater box yesterday, it has decided to live again and is making clicking / buzz noises and generally stuffing everything up. Not much works electrically now.

Can I just cut it out by snipping its wiring loom? Or will that make everything even worse?

sounds like you pinched a wire. and its grounding out.

wont electrics be run through it? therefore just cutting its loom will disable everything?

I removed quick track and an immobilzer from one of my cars recently,just find the ignition wires its spliced into ,reconnect them back to the corrsponing colours and your away,I removed about 5+ kgs of unrequired wiring/black box's from the car as well,and gives you a chance to tidy the harness back up after years of dogdy wiring attempts.

Hmm so would this be one of the anonymous black wires going to / from the immo? I did find a rogue loose wire behind the dash.. which is not unusual given the long and rich history of my cars electrical system.

Woohoo that worked . Makes me realise just how easy it is for someone who knows even a little about auto electrics to remove one. Hardest job would be locating the unit!
