GTi-R block (in particular, the sump) is different. The sump is longer and wider on FWD. It's hard enough getting clearence (and driveline angles correct) with RWD yet alone the troubles you'd have with the FWD block. The head is also different, both to the RWD and non GTi-R FWD's. And as has been said, dizzy is at rear, water routing different, alternator is opposite to RWD and too close to run a RWD Turbo as there's fook all room for pipe work. GTi-R turbo is turned around.

Not saying it's not possible, NA FWD SR20 in RWD set up has been done. But there's a LOT of customising involed and if you cannot do it all yourself, paying others to do it is not worth the time, money or effort as opposed to using a RWD.

And you say you want to use GTi-R quad plenum to be different, more power? Again, not worth the time or effort as a simple bolt on or ECU mod will net same gains. My 2c.

i think i have read about 20 pages on different forums and there are many different opinions and many people guessing things lol! me included :)

Okies i'm gonna try call in the jap wreckers on way home from work tomorrow and check it out surely they will have a gti-r motor sat around???

So just to clarify things i have a s13(redtop) sr20det and 5pd box ready to go in
I was only going to go the quads if i can still get them cheap, but seems like alot of hassles

YEAH! FOR SURE!!!still going turbo, got an s13 red top motor and 5sp, but you dont see many with the quad's if any so was just going to do something different, i've heard the quads give it alot more down low??
anyways yeah im going to have to change the thermostat housing as the rwd one dosen't give me much room with radiator squeezed in there!
Like you said not sure if the heads are different...hmm i think i need to go to a jap wrecker..

thanks guys
Any help if anyone knows anything else feel free to add..
hey if you get a chance can you take a pic of the thermostat housing on the fwd sr20.
cheers

when you say your planning on putting quad throttle bodies, do you still intend to go turbo?

cheers, Tom

From what I have learen't. FWD block is different. Not even sure if a RWD gearbox will bolt up to it. Quads from the GTiR can be used. An adapter is made to turn the plenum around the other way. I'm pretty sure u could use the head but you would need a different way of getting crank angle. Do you mean the water neck or the thermostat housing down near the water pump. I made my own water neck as I didn't like the way it restricted flow under the CAS. Its a little harder to get the CAS out now but the flow is heaps better.

hey jds
the motor that i got came with upgraded turbo, injectors and ecu and well as the 300zx air flow sensor..
but was just thinking the quads would give it that bit extra if it was as simple as just the plenum chamber to be changed??
cheers for your advice

Water Neck. Made from 1 1/4 inch stainless bend and 6mm plate cut and welded on. I don't have the bleed nipple but it isn't nessesary anymore.

thats exactly wat i was thinking about needing..... could you take a photo straight down looking at how much room you have between the engine and the radiator? itd be awesome if you could. cheers.

just as a reference for people i got this reply on the sr20 forum

ITS A LOT OF WORK

I know because I have them. you gotta flip/reweld the plenum, drill holes (pattern is different) then port match the itb's and head since the ports dont line up. Then you have to make a vacuum chamber and drill it for the s13 iacv and balance ports. Is it worth it - yes if u do it urself... if you cannot do the work yourself - its gonna be smarter to buy the ikeya formula setup.

its a bit harder to put em on a s14/15
