Just finished doing this to my Mk1 Escort.

I welded some more metal onto the tabs along the lower front to allow enough space to use a nutsert. I also added a tab on the rear underside then used a nutsert into the sill area.

In total I used;

5 nutserts along the drip rail
4 nutserts down A piller
1 nutsert on underside
3 nutserts on lower front panel
3 nutserts around headlight area

All nutserts were stainless.

Was reasonably easy to so although I had done alot of front end repairs/replacements and getting the panels to line up initially took some time.

i dont think pictures will really help a great deal and I am not sure that I have any. This is the way I did it;

  • - get wings into useable condition (I needed to do rust repairs and replace the lip as mine had more spot weld holes than lip)

  • - weld additional tabs onto the wing around the headlight (x3), lower front panel (x3) and A pillar area (x2)

  • - weld additional tabs onto the lower front panel corresponding with those on the wing (x3)

  • - determine how many bolts you want on the top lip (I used 5) and measure the centres accordingly

  • - drill small pilot holes in the lip

  • - put panel back on and mark pilot hole on drip rail

  • - drill necessary nutsert holes in drip rail and enlarge pilot holes in wing lip

  • - install nutserts and bolt wing on

  • - clamp front panel and wing to get the correct alignment (I had to cut off the arch lip to assist getting enough flex but I was putting bubbles on so could do that)

  • - on the wing mark location of the 3 holes around the headlight area and the 3 holes on the tabs on the lower wing

  • - remove wing and drill pilot holes where marked

  • - remount wing and mark location of pilot holes{/*]
  • - remove wing and drill nutsert holes in front panel and enlarge pilot holes

  • - install nutserts and bolt wing on

  • - mark location of 4 holes on wing down A pillar

  • - remove wing and drill pilot holes where marked

  • - remount wing and mark location of pilot holes{/*]
  • - remove wing and drill nutsert holes in A pillar and enlarge pilot holes in wing

  • - install nutserts (the A pillar is thick so make sure your nutserts are deep enough else substitute a steel nutsert and put a spot of weld on the back to stop it spinning) and bolt wing on

  • - mark location of hole on underside tab

  • - remove wing and drill pilot hole where marked

  • - remount wing and mark location of pilot hole

  • - remove wing and drill nutsert hole in sill and enlarge pilot hole in wing

  • - bolt wing on and have a beer

Good luck - will post pics if I can find any
