Just do a mild 2 litre build, maybe just leave the head, warm cam, standard pistons and rods (have heard a pinto rev to 9300rpm on standard internals!!) may have been point bouncing a little but thats what it said on the tacho. lol

Just don't go too overboard with it, otherwise you'll just lose money and interest.

If it were up to me, I would just freshen a pinto up, get a warmer cam, extractors, redline airfilter (get rid of the old mother) and you'll be laughing.

Should produce more than 100bhp at the flywheel, thats more than enough to do some burnouts!! Should cost you around 1,000 i should think.

Cheers

here here to FPV_escort, just do a basic rebuild, the replacement of the standard cam can do wonders
all dyno's vary in what reading they give, it all comes down to how they drive etc
chasing figures can get very, very expensive

true true, i understand that figures are fairly irrelevant and most dynos read differently. i'm only asking as i know that if i go the 4age route i could make that kind of power pretty easily.

R1 Carbs
Raised Compression
Toda Cams with about 288 inlet 272 exhaust duration 9mm lift.
Extractors/exhaust

there is also the benefit of the 4age being about 30 kilos lighter than the pinto.

i'm setting this car up for the street with the occasional bit of dori dori.

8kg/mm front coil overs, -3 of camber, 13x8's with stretched rubber.

is converting the rear to a coil over and 5 links set up both expensive and difficult or just expensive?

as for burnouts, i can do them in the stock 1.6 but they really aren't my thing.

You'll be suprised with a good pinto. Not too sure if many people are familiar with Baskerville Raceway (Hobart Circuit)?? A guy I know (saw the times for a fact) has a mk1 2 door escort with uprated shocks, couple degrees of negative camber, 2 litre pinto rebuilt with an uprated cam, extractors bottom end freshened up and he did a 1.07 around baskerville. The rebuild cost him just under a 1,000 and its bascially bullet proof.

I can understand you with the conversion, as soon as you start doing a conversion, there's no stopping!!

I've got a club car Mk1 4 door, its basically a warm 1600, and that thing is quick as anything (well not really) but it feels like it. As long as its loud and it can smoke the tyres off the start line, thats enough for me

good luck with the car, looks like a fun project

pinto's can do good burnouts - even on rally tires!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tK0EOK2qet0

dont blink as you may miss it, but it is producing plenty of smoke

the motor is just shy of 100 rwkw on a very harsh dyno, motor produces around 190 bhp

i am a bit of a purist, stick with the pinto or a more modern ford motor

as i said, i dont really like burnouts, they are about as pointless as drag racing. but your escort does sound tough.

i have a zetec atm and i've ruled that conversion out due to its difficulty.

i have a few requirements for my engine conversion...

DOHC L4 2 litre or less.
Quad Carbies.
No Computers.
N/A 100rwkw
5 Speed.

And 3k to get it all working.

if that's possible with a ford engine please let me know. i understand you can buy 16 valve dohc heads for the pinto but i assume they would be quite a lot of money.

I would love to keep it all ford but it seems the 4age is the logical choice.

if only Australia didn't fail as a country and we actually decided to get cosworths locally delivered instead of sticking to bogan spec v8's there would be no deliberation, as the engine choice would be obvious.

I agree with the drag racing, but hey, it was a Dial your own time event with an online forum similar to this, I had people laughing all day as I was in full rally trim, inlcuding spare wheel, driving lights, even first aid kit (which came in handy for another competitor) and after nearly 25 years of racing had never tried it.

my thoughts -
doesnt matter what type of racing you are doing as long as your there in the right spirit with like minded people having fun -sheep stations are overated - lol

dont even think about the cossie 16v head if youve only got 3k to spend dude, stock used ones are around $2k, brand new about $5k

well we have all said our part, desicion rests with you.

1 vote for the pinto [:x)] good to keep things in the family.
