So its seems there may or may not be people talking about my car and it supposedly has shadows over it.
 
Would be nice to know about these other stories from people here, except gtcapri, I know what he thinks.  Perhaps mods can block him from this thread.
 
If someone can show me its not genuine then that's ok, but it might change how I restore it.  Definitely wont be concourse as planned if not the real deal.
 
Here's what I know.  It was first sold in QLD and has had at least 2 WA owners of the past 15 years.  I bought it from a collector who owned it for 13 years.  Was painted red over original orange.  He had fibreglass guards fitted which were removed and replaced with the original steel ones, but he only bolted them on.  They are 2mm out on each side.  He then resprayed orange over the red.  I have all his photos.  The bonnet pins issue has been explained by ford, its passed inspection and numbers are clean, floors are original, pressings correct, bumper brackets correct, tacho correct, brake lines correct, corner brackets correct, paint on inside of panels correct, stamp fonts correct, some rust repair in usual places, no accident damage, has incompatible clear coat which is cracking.  
 
Maybe I missed something, maybe its just a disgruntled ebayer trying to damage the car.

I didn't pay matching number price for it as they were covered in paint when I got it.  I spent hours checking everything else before I bought it, confirmed the eng number to the comp plate, took a punt on the chassis number, and then stripped the interior out when I go it home, but if I have missed something then I would like to know.

I strongly disagree, the first thing I would be checking is the matching numbers when buying a car that is advertised as an "Original Matching Numbers GT V6".... A matching number car is worth more than a non-matching number car, as GTV6 said  "I didn't pay matching number price for it as they were covered in paint when I got it"......... if you are uncertain about it being an original matching number car and there were "shadows" over it, it should of never of been advertised as a matching number car. 
 
Coming from a person who will never sell their cars, price does not mean anything to me, but that's just how it is, matching number cars have proven to sell for more than a non-matching number cars and this applies to all classic cars, just take a look at the prices for an original matching number XY or XW GT......that is proof right there and that is only one example.
 
Only after this has been proven, then I start to look for rust and bog.
 
 
 
 
 
 

So essentially it’s a 1970 to early 71 model V6. So engine number should be a JE number and yours is. Does the engine number have the same number as the comp tag? If yes the only other check is the slam panel for that year having the Ck17xxxxxxx numbers stamped on it and even if that was missing the other info shows it’s matching numbers (silly spot for identification on the slam panel) and has had a small prang in the past.
Even the stamps used during the years changed as well as the asterisk on some not on others. 1970 had the engine number stamped on inside of drivers shock tower. 1971 has the Ck17 number in the same place. 1972 has the Ck17 number at the front of the same shock tower if that makes sense.
End of the day if it’s s nice Capri built well the value difference of matching numbers to non matching numbers isn’t great if at all. Maybe 10% extra.
A 4cyl converted to V6 is a different story but again a rust free well built car beats a bogged up death trap for me.

And to add Ford and other manufacturers of the time stuffed up regularly on so many things but still fixed the stuff up and sold the car. I’m sure my CK18Km gt V6 will bring out questions if I ever sell it. Ford Authentication letter to back it up.
My main concern is dumping lots of money into a car that might be stolen only for it to be taken away. I’ve two cars with question marks but one is definitely stolen but who do I call to clear it? The other has a bodgy stamp on the strut tower but no grinded stamp at all so it’s been replaced or never had one.
In saying that I’m selling my best car matching numbers because it’s the best I have without wasting time on several sales tyre kickers and hours of bargaining and BS.

I should clarify, I am 100% confident that the car is authentic and 100% stand by the ad I wrote.
 
I know there were rumours that almost sucked me in so how about I go first. 
 
During the auction I got an email with lots of photos of bonnet pins and of a page from the ford part book showing the 1600.  The suggestion was that because of the bonnet pins it was a 1600 cut and shut.  A couple of days later another message from another ebay user suggesting the same thing.  It may me worried and I spent hours going over the car...again.  But then a slip of the tongue from one of them about a conversation he had with Ford made me call them.  I was shocked that Fords policy had changed and that anyone with the VIN could ask about the car, and the VIN was in the ad pics.  It looked like the author of the email already knew that it is a bonnet pin delete option and I was being set up.  A tape measure confirmed that the pins were not factory installed and the engine bay panels and braces were verified.  I put it down to a tactic aimed at driving the price down and since more than one person made the same claim, it was either a team at work, or the rumour spreading was working.  This is why I created the bonnet pin thread after the auction.
 
Other than that I don't use social media and have no idea what's been said elsewhere, but am curious to know, after all it's not just a car, it's an investment with a very rare build option combination.
 

^^^I don't care any of the above GTV6, that's the first pic of the car in question I've seen, and it looks pretty perfect in my mind.
 
I wouldn't change anything and would be proud to park it in my garage anyday.
I hope it does go to someone who is the next custodian, leave the ****ers to buying toranas and GT falcons  who have more rare spares items in them than original.
