Hi Guys,

Are there any secrets to removing the moulding strips along the side of the car.

I have a 78 MKII with the Ghia body strips.

Do they just pull off or is there a better way to do it?

Cheers

Matt

I think the factory fitted ones are bolted on. Have a feel under the front guard. If they are the self adhesive ones, good luck.

They are mostly clipped on with plastic clips, but the most forward one is a metal one bolted on that you have to slid the trim forward or backwards a little to get the relief to line up and the trim off. I think thge one above the tail lights is a metal one too...
Once you get one off you will see how to do the others without butchering them (using common sense of course)...

I had self adhesive ones, all good until it took off a piece of paint on my front guard :(

Some Early (76ish) ones had self adhesive ones (n ot sure how ori\ginal though or if it was dealer fit), but these are generally narrower than the late mode Ghias which are clip on...

my 77 escort had the stick on type, if this is the case, peel the end back so you can just get a razor blade under it. bend/curve/flex the blade into an arc and pull it along thr length of the strip being carefull to not touch the paint! use dissolveit to get rid of any sticky residue then buff the paint to blend it in. a panel beater friend of mine told me that and you would never know it was there on mine,

I know it's an oldish thread, but I am sure that Ghia moulds are clip on.There should be a nutted clip at the front and rear of the mould.remove the nuts, and gently prise the mould up wards, away from the panel.the plastic clips will most likely break,as they become brittle over the years.
Once the moulds are removed, get a small phillips screwdriver and gently drive the small pin that is in the centre of the clip through.this will allow you to remove the clip.
You will now have a heap of 6mm holes to either fill or hide.

Hi Guys,

Been a while but turns out they are just atached by 2 sided tape.

Just slid a razor blade underneath them as I pulled.

Gonna try the dissolveit trick today.

Cheers

on my 79 ghia the strips had started to sag / bend where clips had gotten brittle / broken so i decided to take them off... but now left some nice speed holes down either side of the car... wishing i had the sick on ones...

with the do you have any examples / pics of someones repair job on the 6mm holes...
do you just run bog over or weld?
