Hi Chris,

The factory ECU with factory 2wd loom is probably the easiest and cheapest option but is only good for a stock engine or the chip upgrades that are available...non of which are prefect for any one car/setup.

Autronic hardware starts at about $1600, add ignition system and components, injectors, installation and tuning and you will be at 3k for a basic set up...add 500R Cdi and 4 cdi coils,$1600, run SM4 instead of SMC, add $600...thats a rough idea. There are alot of other ecus on the market...my best advice is to go with what you can get support for, not what is the best price.

Cheers,

Phil.

As phil has stated the standard Ecu and 2wd loom will do fine for now so why not get it going using these then update at a later stage? You can get brand new looms to suit from around 450 pounds from the UK.

If you can get a factory ECU and loom it will cost you about 1k...but its horses for courses, noone can live map the Weber Marelli units in Oz. If you want to save money, do it once and do it right, spend the $$ on the good gear straight up. If you dont mind spending the money several times over you can set up with the factory ecu first then upgrade later if you want high end performance I went the factory ecu first then upgraded(twice)later on...it definately cost my a bucket load of un necessary $$ but I didn't have the cash in the early days for the good gear[8~2]

I run SMC ECU and 500R, Phil has the SM4 (I did not want to use extra features such as launch control or traction control)...Do it once and right...Otherwise you might torch it accidently and waste the whole exercise...As mentioned hardware and software support is vital too.
