Do we have Atlas axles over here? So far I am going down the Hilux route as I assume an Atlas is a rare as hen's teeth. Thought I better ask the question before I shell out the hard earned....

They are about but arent anywhere near as common as they are in the UK. Parts are not as easy to come by or priced anywhere near the price of parts for local diffs like the Hilux and the Borg Warner

So really the Hilux route is probably the cheaper. If the Hilux is about 15-20kg heavier then I cannot really see any noticeable change to the handling (for me). The only down side to the Hilux is the cost of a KAZZ slipper for it [:u]

I did start to see threads about Courier diffs but that seems to have gone quiet.

New castings are being made in UK now and will be available in the next few weeks. Both standard and wider widths are being made. Pricing is a bit unsure but maybe $2,000 for a full unit would be close? + the airfare out here.

I hope to have some later this year but probably won't be until around June.

All Capri v6's had an atlas as standard, but im sure they are wider that the escort ones. The 1600 capris had the english like the Escorts. hope this helps. O

All the pommie builders use Atlas axles. I guess to a degree this is due to availability and the fact that it is a Ford item. But nowhere have I ever seen any information as to the strength of these things. It is obviously tougher than the English but how does it compare to others such as Hilux?

Anyway....Hilux for me (if I can find one)

If anyone is chasing some atlas style complete diffs I have at least 3 I'd like to offload, will have to comfirm ratios, but they are all Mk1, thinking 3.9

They were used in early 3ltr Capri models. Don't know if they changed after that. The 3ltr Capri standard ratio was apparently quite high (good for highway cruising)though. The assembly is between 40 and 50mm wider than as Escort diff. Just the thing for filling out wide arches without having to resort to really wide wheels. If you want to install one in an Escort you supposedly have to remove the spring plates and rotate the diff 4 degrees to get the right angle for the drive train.

I may be wrong, but the diff you refer to as the "atlas" style is the the one that looks like a falcon type, tin plate rear and centre loads from rear??
