my 2l seems to b only running on 2 or 3 cylinders! iam thinking it mayb the dizzy as a mechanic said its worn which is causing the random sparks.
ive fitted a new gt40rt coil, and with pretty new plugs and leads iam not sure wat else 2 do.
so now to the questions.. has any 1 used the petronix ignitor 1? it seems to be quite good and iam wondering if it would solve a few of my probs.. can they be used with the current coil and resistor wire?
any ideas

how is your dissy cap???
do you have spark at all spark plugs. eg remove a lead at a time to see if the engine labours a bit to make sure it is a spark issue

its a brand new dizzy cap and i have done a couple of spark test but need a second person so i can do sum more and confirm the problem. thats my next step!!
but i would like to get rid of the points anyway if it means better starting and hassel free tuning. emailed the guys at www.proquip.com.au and got a quote.. they said kit # 5802 was what i would need and would cost $240. it would pay for itself in a couple of years of changing points and condensors!!
so do you have to bypass the resistor wire and change the coil to run it?

i dont mean to question ur intelligence or the intelligence of the mechanic

but make sure its running well carby/intake wise.. running to rich or lean will be blocking out different plugs all the time..

without having to go in depth to check urself..

replace all the plugs, or atleast clean, and if it doesnt run any better than intake is out of the question, if it runs great for a minute or so, then yeah, running too rich or lean

I purchased a petronix ignitor 1 from ebay in the US it cost $78 US dollars delivered to my door. for info on how they hook up look up

I have a Petronix on it's was from the US thanks the James R comments in the other post. In one of the messages that came from the bloke he said that all of a sudden he had lots of requests for these from people in Australia, probabally all from here.

I know this may sound like a stupid question. But I am looking at installing electronic ignition into my Mk2 Escort but i was wondering what the difference between the simple Petronix Ignitor I system is compared to a Luminition Powerpack type unit like the Luminition Optronic Ignition.

The Petronix is a simple install whereas the other seems more involved. Does the powerpack act as a coil??

i just had the run around with Pro-Quip (who distribute Petronix here in Australia).

i gave them all the details - including part number of the dist and cap, and they still managed to send me the wrong one... grr...

trip to coventry's (for lots more bucks) and i have the right one... and now i have to work to try to get my money back for the original...

on the plus side, they are a great improvement!

Check out this bloke.http://www.simonbbc.com/automotiveshop/. I bought 2 units for my MK1 crossflow (a spare will always come in handy) which work great, it all fits inside the dist. no external parts, easy to fit and only cost $80 inc postage, FOR THE TWO!!!!! Thats $40 each.
