I've pulled my master cylinder which had a cracked reservoir, I've sourced another reservoir but turns out there are 2 different size master cylinder (mine is the shorter one) apparently you can no longer source the reservoir for the shorter master anymore, so my options are
- Be lucky enough to find someone with the shorter reservoir (no luck yet)
-Buy a rebuilt master that is the longer one (around $340)
- Buy a generic master from yesterford (around $300)

What do you guys think is the best option?

The bottom of the reservoir says, Brakes India which I believe is different to the longer reservoir.

Okay so ideally if anyone has one of the shorter reservoir that would be great,
The measurement from the centre of both holes on the bottom is 108mm on the shorter one and 115mm on the longer one.
I've also attached a pic showing the difference in shape.

Going by the shapes the res on the left is capri and the one on the right is mk1 escort.
I thought all capri masters were the same so it looks like a mk 1 escort master has been swapped in at some stage.
So then what you need is a escort res to fix or ditch it all and get a capri master and res.

Yes that's what I thought initially but was also told that 2 different types were used on the Capri, so still not totally sure, but I am leaning toward getting a 'Capri' master and fitting the reservoir on the left in the photo to it.
Have you heard anything about the new generic brand masters and if they are any good?
Or should I just get a completely reco original master?

Yeh I do. I bought a generic version, brand new, looks great, fitted fine and that's where the good stuff finishes. Had no end of trouble bleeding the brakes kept loosing the pedal after a couple of minutes.  It would just go to the floor. even adjusted the push rod length, only to find out that the master cylinder cups and a few other bits were stuffed inside the brand new unit (new old stock). I should have had my old one reconditioned with the benefit of hindsight.
Maybe I just got the bad one....

Thanks for the honest opinion mate thats what i was concerned about, i can get a complete reconditioned unit for $340, sounds like the way to go.
