Here's the 1600GT wiring diagram and the wiring ID info. This may help as the XL was really just a re-badged GT when the GT/V6 came along. As for the electric connection to the floor mounted washer pump, I'm pretty sure that our Mk.1s didn't get that!

Thanks for that. Should be able to cross check the V6 to XL now. We didn’t get the foot switch but my Perana did. It is based on an XL MK1 Capri in South Africa and they did get it. Other changes too like mandatory that the speedo reads in km/h not miles per hour.
Cheers

Hope these diagrams are of some assistance, page numbers are printed on each page and one page leads to another with the wiper/washer wiring.

Keith, what wiring changes are needed to convert an Australian capri to do what your Perana does re: the washer/windscreen? I have one of those electric foot switches and it might be a nice conversion.

Cheers

Not to sure Jamie. Timmo has provided the correct diagram but I can’t zoom in and read any colours of wires.
Really a loom comes up to the switch from the foot switch. I just remember reading somewhere about an extra wire coming out of the windscreen wiper motor but can’t remember for sure.
Really it is just a moment of power and the self cancelling of the wiper motor should do the rest. Timmo is their any way you could post a clearer picture of those diagrams please.

Wipers all hooked up with foot switch. Not hard at all for a skilled man like me. Not really just hooked it up and they work.
Now for the crazy bits. Can’t get lights to work so or indicators. Can hook power up to lights from bypass cable to switch but not without cables are connected and checked with resistance tester fine. Also can’t get the alternator light to come on. Globes not broken and one side shows 12v or so the other doesn’t with globe out. With globe in it shows 12v in 12v out yet the globe is not lit.
Finally on this loom someone has changed the passenger connector to firewall plug. Aside from the brown batt+ feed every wire is soldered in to a different color. It’s shocking and doing my head in.
Car was working then had a fault so lights all worked and electrics in general.
Any ideas guys. Or I’m thinking change loom back to standard, which means I’ll chase it right through the engine loom afterwards and also the rear loom.
All I can think is as it’s South African build their looms were different in setup color and I have either engine loom from Uk and main from SA or the opposite.

so going back to basics, if you've got voltage one side, made sure the earth is decent, especially if you've just repainted the car.
The one time I had gremlins after the rebuild, it was the firewall plug which it was hard to refit well due to age, and that was 20 years ago

Ah don't forget there are 2 types of pre-facelift MK1 looms.  one is like all Aussie delivered cars-fuse box on the PS inner guard.  The other has the fusebox on the back of the cardboard flap INSIDE the cabin, seen on SOME UK models, these look a fori bit different to the other loom, it might be what you have-or a combination of both
