my old starter has carked it. push starting at the moment to get to work !

1979 1600 kent 711M LHS 3 bolt starter. the solenoid points towards the floor (not upwards, as it hits the exhaust - as i have found out)

had a search and have found some big-bucks new ones and continue to trawl ebay for one.

want to know if there is any other options out there to fit my motor?

I've got a spare 2L one you can use interim if you have no other options.

But the solenoid is up not down

Have you seen if a auto electrician can overhaul yours?

yeah, got quotes from auto lectrician of anywhere between 250 - 300. plus GST.

crazy.

mainly wanting to post here if there was any other option out there.

i have fitted a 2L starter, but the solenoid points up, and with my current 4-1 extractors, it hits on the exhaust manifold.

for my situation - i took my old one apart, cleaned it up, replaced the solenoid, took to it with electrical cleaner and sand paper - working a bit better, but still sounds like someone eating gravel...

all the ones i have found have the solenoid facing up... and removing / replacing the cap doesnt work because the thru-pins dont align with the 2L model.

long story short - going to pony up the $250+ to get the old one reconditioned...

and dont believe all that suppliers / lecky's info - a 2L one will not always fit your 1600 [:0]

Why not pony up $330 and grab a brand new CAE one?
