Hi, I am chasing 4 overriders for the rally pack version and have come across some repro ones that someone is making. Only concern I have is that they are different from the overrider on the Escort rally pack I had as my first car as the edges are not tapered but have a curve to them. Does anyone have any info on whether Australia made different ones or if the 1978+ versions (the ones with the blue ford badge) were different.

OK Here goes...

I found all this out years ago after I got my first Escort when it was 9 years old and spent a few weekends trying to find the correct one.
Talking Mk2 Rubber bumper bar overiders only too...
There are fluted and round shapes, deep and shallow sizes and to suit a bumper with or without the rubber strip.  So when you start looking at combinations there are a few different ones, although I never found every variant back then. (I think the shallow versions are from the earlier Mk2 cars as that is where I seem to recall finding/seeing most) Without the rubber strips are the ones you probably require if your car is a real rally pack, but these are also the rarest and probably most difficult to source too...

I have seen
  • fluted deep with strip
  • round deep with strip (what I needed for my 79Ghia at the time)
  • round deep without stip (found on the later rally packs with bumperettes)
  • round shallow without strip (very early rally packs I think and very rare)
  • fluted shallow with strip (early Ghia maybe??).......
I got one in a box of spares (short round one I think) that I picked up the other day, but I have not put overiders on a car in over 10 years as they got too hard to find good full sets.  Mostly the locating screws at the rear of them that hold them onto the bumper clips rust solid over time and have to be drilled out to get them off the bar. (Then they are scrap)

Thanks mate, that's very informative. I'll take a few pics of the ones I have and the repro ones i bought, so we'll see which ones I really need, from memory and from what you say I'd be after the round deep ones without the strip, for the bumperettes as you said. Was there ever a fluted one made without the strip, as this seems to be what the repro ones are, though if they are cast from the Ghia ones it would be easy to modify the mould so they end up without the strip?

thewally,
Are you refering to the overriders that 79rallypack has for sale, They were modeled of a brand new still in the packet Ford Bumper Override for a rally pack Escort. You are right there is two styles on the edges , You will need to contact Stephen as to technicaly which ones Ford used on your model. If it any thing else like Ford does is they use what the had available on the day, an other example is the washer bottle and bracket etc,

79rallypack
The Repo overriders that you have were made from a genuine rallypack overrider, which is the same as the mexico in england i have been told ??, i had a mate who had a 77 rallypack which had the same overrider as the repo you have, my 79 rallypack also came with the same style as the repo one you have, so i think Mr Ford put on what ever they had at the time, I also have one brand new still in original packaging of the "rounded" ones as you are after, It was sold over the counter in the spare parts section after i had a bit of a bump in my car over 30yrs ago. hence this is why it is still brand new as it was different to the ones i had on  my car.   and yes i do believe they came out with two different style overriders the problem was which one do you make !! as they both had the same part No.    will anyone know what style your car had, the answer is NO.
