Hi guys

New to the pinto scene, looking at building a motor for a tarmac rally car. the engine which came with a donor car has had a pretty big blow up at some stage in its life. About a 1mm deep chunk in one of the bores, so not great!!

The pistons are already 30 thou oversize, so just wondering, do the 1600 ohc pistons have the same size pistons?? Is it like a xflow (kent) you can interchange pistons??

Any help would be great, looking a building the engine on a tight budget.

SO if anyone knows of any pistons going cheap, please let me know, will get the machinist to measure up and see how far it'll have to be bored!!

Thanks

They have 2000 and 1600 pinto engines have different bore sizes, use the same crank.

Are you building a 1600 or a 2000 ohc pinto???

building a 2 litre. Just a mild spec, hopefully around 110 at the wheels.

what's the best option, don't want anything that will put a huge dent in the wallet.

cheers

You can buy new Mahle cast pistons with rings new fairly cheaply. I bought some for my previous motor a few years ago for around $50 each.

They are cheap unless you go for forged pistons.

You can go as far as 60 thou over with a Pinto.

You would be hard pressed to find 1600 pinto pistons in this country even if they were the same.

I cant see any value in using second hand pistons anyway. if you are going that far do it properly!
