yeah i think i know what the new fuel pump failed,, because it had no filter on the inside of the canister. see this car was sitting for 6 months because my mechanic couldn't figure out why it wouldnt start and it was because the rotor wasnt fitting snug on the distributor
but anyways yeah i think the new fuel pump got clogged up probably had a lot of junk in the tank after sitting for 6 months, she ran for a few weeks then the fuel pump started rattling.
anyways i found a fuel pump online that includes the filter on the inside so im gonna be ordering that and hopefully she will stay started..
right now she tries but won't stay started, i did pour some fuel in the carby and she started for a few seconds than died.
thanks again

okay now i discovered fuel is leaking from the main gasket on the fuel pump. I didn't put any sealer on the gasket and thats probably why, i guess the old fuel pump still works because fuel is coming out of it and leaking at the part that is connected to the engine. I didn't think i was supp to put a epoxy on the gasket  so now i gotta get the fuel pump off again and hopefully get her back connected with an epoxy on the gasket so she won't leak. OMG this makes me mad because it was so hard getting that hard fuel line in and now i gotta take if off unless i can disconnect it from the engine without disconnecting it which is doubtful. :(

what do you want to send me? lol
well i had a mechanic friend come by and he said although she seems to be getting gas from old fuel pump he thinks i should put a new fuel pump on there. i got the leak to stop but she still won't start. well she did for a minute but backfired so...
he also suggested i put a inline fuel filter along with the filter that is on the inside of the canister of the pump.
will an inline fuel filter work going to the pump? from the rubber fuel line?? will that work?

I would put an inline filter on the fuel line before the pump.  That way the fuel is being filtered before it gets to the pump.

okay now I got the fuel pump on and it is def. getting gas.
But it still won't start.
It will for a second then it dies. I really think it is the carburetor. Maybe the automatic choke needs adjusting? I'm really thinking about taking it to a shop that is close by and let them diagnose it. I was with this old car guy today and he cleaned off the plugs, they had a lot of gas on them and we ran down the battery trying to start it up.
I got the battery charged up and she still won't start.  The carburetor is brand new and he had adjusted it before and it was running great but thinking it is a missing wire or something.
Have you ever heard of a fuel pump rattling before going bad? just curious. I know the fuel pump was bad because it was leaking fuel.
The old car guy that was trying to help me with it today said it could be the timing chain is loose. God I hope not.
He thinks that is where the rattling came from the timing chain. But the rattling was not that loud and it came from the driver side of the car and the day I drove it and popped the hood, the fuel pump was shaking like crazy and rattling so I hope to God he is wrong.

Well i don't know if yall are still around but here is what i think is going on
i can clearly see that the throttle linkage is missing. the carburetor is not working with the gas pedal. i had her towed to a shop that was recommended to me so hoping that is all it is.
i know i heard the rattling from the front top side of the hood and think it is the linkage is missing. you can move the lip of the carb by hand but when you move the gas pedal it does not move the lip of the carb. i think some wire snapped or something in the linkage snapped.
wish me luck that this is all it is.
the old car guy that was looking at my carb i think has a few screws loose himself, he loosed something on my brand new carb, don't think he hurt anything but hopefully this shop that works on classics can get her running again.

ya the shop says it is the distributor cap and rotor
wondering if the rattle was coming from the cap messing up? or the rotor? any thoughts? I had put a brand new cap on it but it had the old rotor because the new rotor would not fit on old distributor.

he said nothing was wrong with the linkage. hmmmmmm
