ok the rattle is coming from the brand new fuel pump I put in. and today tried to drive it and it kept backfiring all the way over the bridge. we had super cold weather here in Fl and I had barely any gas in it. :( had to have her towed home. im thinking the fuel pump went bad maybe. also gonna get some more gas and put it in there. but why was the fuel pump rattling? thinking about taking it out and putting the old one back in cause I don't think anything was wrong with it. now the car won't bloody start. not sure if the fuel line froze up or the gas is not getting to my spanking new carburetor. gonna look at it tomorrow hopefully will not be as bloody cold. it has been in the teens in Fl. record breaking temps!
and purple it is a straight 6 engine, the intake is attached to the engine.
thanks yall

yep I had someone pour some gas right in the carb and she started but then died because it burnt up the fuel. sure it is the fuel pump thinking it has a broken spring on the inside of some sort because of the rattling. taking it out and putting old one back in. will let you know what happens after.

G'day mate,me again, when you say 'attached'? do you mean part of, or bolted?! and what is Fl? I'm guessing your not in aust!!   not to much can go wrong w/ those old donk's, been working on them for over 10+ years now, still have one in the drag kah!(the purple one.) My road kah is a 351 Cleveland!'NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT'. that motor is coming out soon and going in the drag kah! and a 351 windsor is going into the road kah!(actually,it's my house!) yep,I live in my kah!(panelvan) it's a 1968 ford XT falcon.(the white one.)

Yes I live in Florida, USA
I wish i lived down under!!
Anyways, yes the old fuel pump has a fitting that is crooked so I cannot get the metal fuel line back in it. I plan on removing the fitting and screwing it back on, and then hopefully can get the fuel line to screw in right! I could not get it to screw in because of the fitting being on crooked.
I will let you know updates.
Otherwise I will have to get another fuel pump.
That is cool that you drag race your falcons!!

G'day mate,no,you don't want to live down here,we cant do s^!t to our kahz here!! if we did half the stuff you blokes can do to kahz over there, we'd get lock't up and the key would get throw'n away!!! Do you mean the hard line from the pump to the carby,? I'v always ran a fuel filter ether side of the fuel pump, and rarely have any problems! did the "good ol U.S. of A make these pano's over there? do you blokes have 2V 6 cyl's over there?we have falcon 6's from 170ci through to 250ci! the fuel pump's on all these motor's are interchangeable. As for flow rate,as far as I know, there's no difference.good luck w/ it! keep me posted. Cheers mate. (P.S. the drag pano is a XW falcon. these model falcon's start from, XR,XT,XW,and XY!all these models came out in G.T. spec.)

Hey there
It is the hard gas line that goes into the fuel pump. It has some threading on the gas line. When i start to screw it in the fuel pump (which is the filter, which as you know is attached to the fuel pump) it will  not screw in and keeps popping out. I got some teflon tape and I hope i can get it in there. I think the actual hard gas line has a threading issue. :( So unless I can get it to go in there without popping out I don't know what I can do other than get a whole new fuel pump with a new bolt but there is nothing wrong with the bolt on the old fuel pump I really think it is the hard gas line itself that has the threading problem so I might have to get a whole new gas line which is about 100 bucks if I can get it off the carb.

$100.00 for a hard line!!!!! bugger me!!!!!!!!!!!mate, do you have a tap & die set? or have a mate that has one? try re-threading it! if you were here mate, I would just give ya one. The only way for this to work right, is when the fittings are true and square to each other!! no substitute! or you WILL have more problems mate. if you have no choice but to buy one,go to a diesel fitter or a hydraulic shop! should be a lot cheaper! I had three brake lines made up,about 1 1/2 to 2 meter's in length, cost me 60 bucks!! thats w/ a heap of bends and all thread fittings on all the ends. Good luck mate! keep me posted. Cheers.

hey there
well i got the old fuel pump installed, got the fuel line in tight and she still wouldnt start. so thinking the old fuel pump isn't any good. Now i have to take it off again. She started for a minute then she died so thinking she wasn't getting gas.
when i had the other fuel pump on her she ran fine till that fuel pump started rattling and died on me and i think the reason it died is because it had no filter in it.
i found a fuel pump online that has a fuel filter already on the inside of the canister so i will be ordering that and hopefully get her going again.
makes me quite mad that after all that she still wouldn't stay started. i know it is because she must not be getting enough gas from old fuel pump.
grrrrrrrrrrrr.......
thanks for help. hopefully didn't cross thread the fitting on the metal fuel line messing with it so much. so upset i really want to drive her again.
