I was having a look at my wiring today, not that I'm up to wiring just yet but I found a wiring diagram and thought I would take a look.

Is the Rheostat switch the thing that turns the dash lights on and off?
From what I can gather its just a large resister... so when you flick the switch because its in series with the lights and stuff it reduces the current to 'switch' them off?

Could I just remove this circuit from the loom? I thought It was stupid to have the option to turn the dash lights off.

Or am I totally off? Thanks for any advice.
Cheers

I hate to burst your buble, but the "dimmer" switch is just that... It dims the dash lights down in intensity, but not off... It actually makes them go from already dim to virtually not lit - but you can see it on a very dark night or locked in a pitch black garage....

I cannot remember now, but my dimmer switch is not in the dash but tucked up underneath it switched into the so called "bright" position and the switch location taken up by something worthwhile switching (like 300W worth of aircraft landign lights etc...)

I cannot remeber if you take the switch out wheter the dash lights are dim or dimmer, but the resistor is not needed in the real world anymore (if it ever was...)[:0]

Rightyo. Well when I switched it to the dim setting my lights could not be seen and it was on a moonless day 100km for the middle of nowhere =P

I guess I'll just put power into the loom and figure out if I can just take the wire out or join it together permanatly.

Yeah I also what to use the space to have a switch for 2 of the 4 spotlights I'm putting on the front of my baby.

It's an ADR requirement. Car will be unroadworthy if you remove the dimmer function.

In the second edition ADR it states that:
"18.4.3 All visual indicators other than indicating lamps shall be provided with variable intensity when illuminated"

Them in the third edition ADR's:
"18.4.3 Deleted"

I suppose its easier to just have the switch behind the dash.
