Can anyone recommend someone in Sydney that is good at recovering steering wheels.
I have seen the UK Custom Steering ones, but am not confident that I can make it look "factory".

The seller on eBay UK is CustomSteering or Mr Steering ..... I found it on a previous thread on this forum.
This is an eBay item no 281668903730 from the seller.  Its less than $100 so may just get one and see how hard it is.

It's not too hard, I've done my stainless boat wheel in a leather wrap, sorry no photos handy but I could probably dig some up..
Tips: I just bought a partial leather from a tannery nearby, and cut about 2/5i strips, although my wheel was about 700mm dia.
Then sewed them through my (albeit industrial) sewing machine, without the thread. This makes the wholes down one side. Fold it in half, and repeat down the opposite side, ensuring stich holes 'pair up'. Then hand stitch the end to make one loop, it needs to be tight because the leather will stretch.
Then some thin doublesided tape around the perimeter of the wheel to hold in place, fit the skin on and make sure it sits even and parallel.
$2 shop usually has an A4 page of mixed needles, you need 2 of the curved. Use the thickest upholstery  thread (I had red V92) the sewing shop has, and you need to cross stitch using  1 long length of thread, with a needle on each end. Start need a spoke.
There's lots of vids online of how to stitch it.
Very rewarding, not much cost, and not really too hard, you just need a bit of time, about a 2 stubby job. Good luck!

I’d be bragging. My mum taught me to knit about the same age. I can knit you a jumper if you can sew up my steering wheel. I made the misses a sewing room complete with shoot to throw laundry direct down to the laundry. She hit me and said you know I don’t sew. I replied “I know but now you can try”. Still bloody sewing on my own buttons.

I opened my sewing kit today, bloody thing was full of strawberries...
On a serious note, my first cub scout badge was for sewing, they gave you the badge and you had to sew it on, lol, something I never forgot though.
 

Thanks Deano, I ordered one of the ones from the UK .... so will give it a bash. If it looks horrible then not a lot of harm done. Will provide pics......
