Hey all

This is my second restoration project. My first being my club racing car which took over 4 years to build (finished building it last year when I was 18).

The van I bought over 2 years ago, and quite frankly we didn't really know what we were in for. We got the car home, was registered :), but little did we know, it definitely wasn't road worthy. The guys before us had an idea to put body filler in the floor, then put strips of galvanised stell on top?? The floor was a mess, got 2 new floor pans in it, and had some sills etc made up, at the current state, the floor is now finished, all sections welded in, and sealed, now just awaiting underbody spray then paint.

THe rest of the car was pretty good, except the front panel and the driver's side guard, and on of the barn doors, the battery tray, heater bubble, A pillar, the list is getting quite long isn't it..

So, stripped the whole car back to bare metal by hand (took probably 3 months!) and etched primed it. Little did I know how good my timing was, I had received a give-away set of bubble arches. I thought why not, never seen a mk1 van with bubble arches.

GOt a local body works guy to fit the arches and front panel while I was on an overseas holiday. Did a great job, leaving a lot for me to do, which was great (good learning experience).

SO the photos are of how the car stands at the present time.

Motor is being built- mild 1639cc, ported head, quad motorbike throttle injection (thats the plan)

-suspension- lowered 2 inches all round with munroe shocks (cheap ), 2 litre struts up front, standard rear end

So hope you enjoy, will try to keep the build up to date, very stretched for time with uni and racing.

Very cool project man. I have seen a mk2 van with bubbles in UK but not a mk1. Looks great !

nice how much did the wheels end up costing you and did u have to use any spacers or did u just get a big offset

i actually bought the wheels 2nd hand from craig m on rsmotorsport. They were very cheap and look great. They're 13x8's, no spacer's, its just the offset. Think they could be from the u.k though, they have no stamping on them at all.

Got a couple of coats of paint on the van. So preogress it still going just slowly [V]

Bought some carbon matting, so going to start making up a few panels, just need to get through uni and then historic baskerville (can't wait).

Hope you guys approve!!

thanks phil.

its been a long process, but its starting to take shape. Will hopefully have the fuel injection close to finished soon, then the engine might slide in :)
