What are the largest bore/sleaves you can fit in a pinto block?

What is the bore spacing??? I dont have access to a block atm?

I'm guessing it would need the bottom grout filled to retain some strength.....?

Max bore size without sleeving is around 1MM over sized, add another 20 thou if your game.

I bored an old 76 Cortina Pinto block out to 93.5mm, had it sonic tested just incase of weaknesses. Only drama i had was the side core plug 'walking out' due to minor flexing[B)], Its still getting around some 10yrs later. I have heard of 95mm with a 200/205 block as they've thicker walls etc, 93mm should be safe for most road tunings for a stocker Escort block.

Marty,

I'm talking max size, as in fitting new cast liners. I think I recall the Finish guys gutting the centers and using 100mm bores with their custom alloy heads? Just in theory atm....[8~2]

100mm ?!**^%, thats v8 size!! Luckily i've never had to install liners. I just went out to measure the gap between bores(std size) and is 11.5m-12.0mm, the closest hole is the water jacket at approx 8mm, hope this helps..

G'day Shaun,

Your always a little outside the square

1275 Mini blocks have offset bores, could be possible with a pinto ????

The alloy Cosworth blocks which have siamese bores have been taken to 97mm with a liner and there was talk of trying direct plating to get them to 100mm.

If you wanted to go even 97mm you need to have the sleeves made in one piece to do it properly, a half arsed way would be to machine flats on sleeves to create a siamese bore.

Thanks Paul,

I'll have to have a bit more of a look into it then. Was just going on what I remembered which can be a little hazy at times....

Thanks Chris,

Thinking outside the square has always been my forte. I'll take it as a compliment

The question came about as I am having some new o/s sleaves fitted in my brothers bike for yet another fankenstein creation of mine
