Can anybody give me a rough estimate of rebuilding the bottom end of a Pinto? I guess that means new rings and bearings generally? Think the motor is fine but just needs a freshen up and check over.

What are you going to want from it?

I should clarify. It has YB rods and forged pistons already. The crank has been given the good news already too. It is really just a check over and freshen up. No major work needed (assume).

If you going to get someone to do it for you, allow $500 for labour.
$350 for gaskets, bearings and piston rings.

Add another $350 if you want a Felpro head gasket set with the head bolted on.
A new timing belt is a good idea, while it's apart.

Thats a serious mark up...!
See why I do it myself.

Felpro full set landed is around $100, and head gasket (from oz) on its own is under $30.

That's fitted. ready to drop in.
That's what i would charge, if i did it.
I am basing the costs on a 202 Holden dad sends away.

Given that nobody else made comment I guess maxrs's price was about right?????

I spent over that in parts & only a small amount of machining on a freshen up, replaced all the bolts, fitted studs, bearings etc so anything under that would seem resonable

this is an engine that I have recently taken over. it has been pushed hard but appears to be in fine condition still. I am thinking that to get the bottom end pulled down and inspected would be a good idea. I am assuming that new bearings would always be put in when doing this (???). Maybe a hone and new rings might be the go.

I am shocked if this would be $1000 plus but then I am asking the question as I have no clue!!!
