The one that feels like it stops the handle regulates how much paint comes out. The other should change the 'fan' shape of the spray of paint.

well got more into the paint.. finished the base coat of black.. then did a second coat with silver (aluminium) stripes

tell me what you think...

some paint peeled off from tape on the rear why is this?

does this mean im using the wrong tape or the paint didn't bond well enough, or didn't i sand it enough?

Hi Sterling did you undercoat it first?
Or just paint over the top of the old paint?
RE the paint not sticking

were it peeled, at the rear i just sanded it down to do a decent etch into the surface, then cleaned with wax + grease remover and hit it with the black paint... should i have put etch primer on there?

i put primer on the front panels

Primer can be useful to help paint fresh paint bond better, or there are also additives that can be added to help it 'stick'. What grade paper did you use to sand the existing, how much and what paints are you using, acrylics or enamels.

It also looks as though you are using normal 'white' masking tape??? Try some of the less harsh 'blue' or 'purple' tape that is designed for low tack masking. Make sure you get a decent brand.

Also how long did you leave between the black and doing the masking? Paint takes a while to 'harden' probably more than you would think, and fresh paint is more likely to peel.

Basically dont skimp on prep and esp in masking, it will catch you everytime..

Least you can fix it up and its always a great learnign curve painting your own car...

not sure if its enamel or not...

ur probably right the paint says dries in 4-6 hours and recoat in 16 hours and i did the tape after about 5 hours it was dry, but ur right it probably didn't get a good bond.

i did 1200 grit sanding all over the car.

and yea i used crafting masking tape... im guessing im supposed to use painter tape? i didn't think it was necessary...

the peeling have been taken care of already just 1200 sanded it smooth then sprayed over it. cant notice it ever happened
