Hi All,
Was doing a tune up the other day and noticed the starter doesn't spin up as well as it used to and  wasn't disengaging properly. Could just get the solenoid checked and fixed but thinking, the starter is years old and is the longer one from a TC, which means that I have to jack the motor up to get it in and out. Thinking that I would buy new / exchange one. Doesn't have to be a HI-torque one, I am running 10:1 compression, but have the 13 tooth cog. Anyone got a good one for sale or give me contact for a company here in Australia who sells them at a reasonable price? Anyone done an exchange one with Yesterford- value for money?

Check your engine to body earths as this can cause a slow cranking starter. Had this problem with an escort starter on a Zetec, I ran 2x earths and problem went away . Also give the starter a drink of lube where possible to see if this helps. I've bought those chinee starters and found out from others they are junk, they crap out after a year or so of usage, mine is still in good order tho..

Yes, I spoke to him the other day, he has exchange recon starters, but his prices are pretty close to the Hi Torque starters listed on Smacka. His Hi Torque ones are $100 more. I pulled the starter today and will give to my local sparky to check out. I'm basically looking at options in case my current one can't be fixed economically.  Yesterford told me that the TC one I have is better as it is bigger and stronger than the standard Escort one.  I will just have to wait and get the verdict from my sparky. Thanks for your input guys.

I have used a few high torque starters (both home made and off the shelf) and would never go back to a standard one for a high compression engine.

Give CAE Performance products in Castlemaine a try. About $396 and I've witnessed good things although i don't use one myself. If I needed a new starter that's where I'd go.

Hi All,
Had a good result with my local sparky, tested, stripped, cleaned and refurbed with new solenoid- just shy of $200 and took a couple of days. Re-install tomorrow and good to go. The club function I was trying to make today was called off because it's still raining but will def make next cruise night.
