I recently contacted Ford requesting a verification letter for two of my MK1 Escort vans. The letters I received stated that both vans were recreation vans, one being a Sunstar and the other being a Sundowner. 
 
Doing further research I've found that Ford Australia had a recreation van line up in the MK1 range consisting of Sunstars Sundowners, Outbacks and Outlanders. I also know there were Little Rippers but unsure if they also fit into this category. 
 
I was hoping others could assist with collaborating as much information as possible on these vans and those who have these vans share photos and information. It appears there is very little information on these vans currently.

like most of us i'm familiar with our Sundowner, but am not as familiar with the Sunstars,Outbacks etc you mentioned.
I'd be interested in seeing your some pics of your vans.
 
Classic Ford mag had an article on some of the Mk1 van converted into a pop top and fitted with fold down seats into a bed.
 
(It looks like I'll be joining the ranks of van owners too next month, with a stripped down Mk2 filling the garage up further. Any pics of what they are meant to look like would be greatfully pored over.)

Here's some info on the MK1 range. I had never heard of any of them before and only thought the MK2 got the sundowner. I'll upload some pics of my vans when I get the opportunity.

Interesting stuff, I've got some old motoring magazines that if I recall may have some period adverts, I'll dig them out over the weekend and post anything I find.

I've made a Facebook page dedicated to the MK1 Escort recreation panelvan range consisting of the Sunstar, Sundowner, Outback and Overlander called 'Australian MK1 Escort Recreation Panelvans'. The group has been solely made to share information and photos, have discussions and obtain as much information on these range of vans as possible. Please feel free to join the group.

Hey Shaun, if pics didn't load in here which happens to me as well sometimes, I go to the full site and load them there, mobile site seems hit and miss with pics of high res quality
