Mk1 Pinto
Recently bought a Mk2 ghia and noticed the vents in C pillar have been welded over. I've heard the car can fog up pretty bad, is it worthwhile putting the vents back in before paint or just leave covered up?

6 of 1, half dozen of the other.. just make sure your heater works really well, Escorts fog up regardless the pillar vent works or not.
I used to keep the passenger window slightly down to even the temp inside to outside to help reduce fogging up..

Thanks for that. Not going to be a show car so Was leaning towards leaving it. This one has air con so that should help anyway..

Hi guys, thought I would tag onto this thread.

Would anyone have some C pillar vent trims for a 2dr MK2?
I have a set for a 4dr MK2 if anyone is interested. Can't believe I once owned a 4dr (my first Escort)

I'm trying to get a mold made in my spare time so I can help the mk2 community out . They will be a fibreglass replica

Fiddly job Marty. Would 3D be easier if one had access to a suitable unit?

Not sure if 3d printing would work. My printer has a bed of only 210x210mm and haven't used it for a couple years now, a bit of impulse buying there..
I have a set but need a little TLC to get up to spec for molding . They won't be exact texture as that's bad for mold lifespan. They'll have some winkle effect but not as factory. I recently done a mk2 parcel shelf mold, 2dr but will fit more door with careful trimming at the sides to suit.

I have a 3d printer at work. If its the interior trims, I think the ones I looked at have a fair curve in both directions, so printing it may need a bit of support, which would end up taking a while and effecting the finish.
Doing the external black vents would be easier in comparison and much quicker.
The hardest part on the interior ones would be the file.

I drew up an RS centre pad for a 3 or 4 spoke wheel, but didnt get around to printing it.
Only from guesswork, so wasnt sure how close to original it might be.

Its the exterior vent trims I have been talking about, that is why I was surprised about trying to replicate them in fibreglass.

But if you were meaning those inside ones, they don't fare well in our harsh hot environment and would be relatively easy to mold up and produce, just not sure about the crater effect?

If you can get a hold of a half decent pair of exterior trims don't discount what can be done with modern trim restorers. I kept the blackouts of my RS nose cone 'natural' (can't stand seeing them painted) and used Mothers Back to Black on it with remarkable results. I top it up every twelve months or so as part o my detailing regime.

The inner trims are available for the two door...

There were no options for mine, being a sedan, so my trimmer made them as an extension of the roof lining and with a bit of creative foam padding you'd have too look hard to notice they're not the original type.
