Hi new here need help in lowering the front of my MK1 escort 1300E
having problems with just putting -1 inch burton springs firstly didn't drop any really  secondly the springs move when the steering is turned
the car has its original struts but to me the E sits to high from factory  any ideas  don't really want to go to coil overs

when you say "the springs move when the steering is turned" do you mean the spring rotates with the strut? that is supposed to happen, that's why there is a bearing in the top of the strut.

if the springs are seated ok, then shorter springs are the easiest option.
or you could go full budget and get the grinder out.

HI Gazz
when driving u get a knock noise when u turn the steering, its the spring moving
this is because the new springs do not sit correctly into the top  u can see this by the shape of the new spring
so was told by Burton's to put a cable tie at bottom to hold it in

but saying that i am still not getting the drop i need as the 1300E  does sit very high from factory

i then bought another spring that looks more like the original in shape, so i thought it would fit better in strut but is still -1 inch  and that's the one in the picture   sits no lower to me

regards

Nick

Send them back lol, swap for -2.5" springs !
The knocking could be the shocker (damper) not tightened down in the strut or the top nut also loose, if you have those eccentric top mounts with spherical bearing, the bearing could be knocking..

-2.5, at 175LB in a std strut will be like slinging a sausage up an alley way. The car will be bouncing all the way and the springs will fall out of their holders, and the steering noises will be excruciating

thats what i have been told, by another forum lol

i am now being told that for me to achieve this i will have to change the complete set up
including steering rack  TCA  struts  calipers   what  a nightmare

Get a set if Capri struts then.no Brainer.
Sausage. .. alley way. ...?
Dude if those springs you bought didn't drop the car that 1" you wished for, that's why I said to go -2.5" as it'll prolly only drop 1.5" max. ... sport springs will usually come out of the seat.... so. ... wire them in top and bottom... simple. .is what we gotta do sometimes.

and what calipers will i be using

Cheers

The original springs were probably sagged so you won't notice much difference with the new lowered spring ride height, also have you driven the car much with the new springs as they may settle a little.

hi thanks for the reply
the car has been driven to settle but i will now leave it as it is, to go lower i am told i will lose the comfort of the drive that i have now
