Hi All,
I'm wondering if someone might be able to confirm if my A.S.S seats in my escort are original rs seats or not.
I'm hoping someone might be have parts cat. with the part numbers, i need this for the engineer currently going over the car he needs proof that they are a factory seat or i need to replace them.
Front seats look the same but have different i.d. tags

The seats don't look like genuine Australian RS seats, which were Scheel brand if memory serves me correct, but it looks like the seats are mounted on genuine Australian RS mounts, so from an engineering point of view I couldn't see why they'd fail, so long as the seat itself passes ADR requirements of the year of your car. Also, as far as I'm aware the genuine Australian 2 door RS Scheel seats had their tilt lock on the side of the seat half way up and not at the base near the adjustment wheel.

To me, they look the same as the RS seats, but as an aftermarket part, if you get my drift. Also, my factory RS seats have the tilt lever at the base.

The seats appear to be retrimmed Scheel seats originally fitted OEM to the Australian RS2000's.
The photos appear to show an Australian assembled 2 door RS2000.
Therefor the seats do comply as original fitment.
Should your engineer doubt the correct fitment, place the onus on him to provide proof the seats are not correct, and provide exact details why they should fail engineering from a structural perspective.

Also you can check with any of the Escort car clubs near you to confirm.
If you wish i can provide a photo of the seats in my RS2000 I have owned continuously since delivered to me brand new in May 1980.

Re the tilt forward lever.
The earlier versions of the Scheel seats had the tilt forward lever at the base of the seat as shown in your photos.
Later build seats the lever was relocated half way up the side of the seat.
ALL Australian build RS2000's had the tilt forward levers fitted irrespective whether 2 door or 4 door car.

The seats do look like Escort scheels but are badged with a german company so obviously not genuine scheels, could be a related company? You could try contacting the manufacturer and asking what European standards the front seats meet. Your engineer might then be able to relate to the Aussie ADR's.
Seats can be tested to meet the various criteria but this could be an expensive exercise. I had some fixed bucket seats tested back in the 90's for an ICV, the engineer was interested in the mounts and the backrest strength before he passed them. The seats were bolted to a vertical surface using the factory mounts and the backrest then loaded with a certain amount of weights. This was done by a vicroads certified engineer for vehicle approval at the time.

It's the early Aussie mk2 RS2000's that had the back tilt on the side and later ones at the base. (I had an early '79 build, owned from new & mine were on the side)  Pictures may not be of an aussie RS interior unless door trims were changed to poverty pack although I can see an RS dash.

A quick google search brings up that they are VW Golf but also, more importantly, Factory XC Falcon Cobra.

According to Ford records, the first 30 cars (JG65UMOOO31) were equipped with the 'Bathurst' Option 97 to meet race homologation requirements for Bathurst (ie the minimum number required by CAMS to be eligible for the 1978 Hardie-Ferodo 1000).
There was plenty of noise made in the press at the time about these 30 cars featuring a whole list of new performance enhancements. In reality, the 30 'Option 97' Bathurst Cobras simply carried over all the race-developed modifications and components which had been integrated in the XC Falcon since its debut at Sandown way back in September 1977!
In fact, the Cobra Bathurst option required only three additions to CAMS existing homologation papers for the Falcon XC 500 GS. This amendment, validated by CAMS from September 1, 1978, officially recognised the XC Falcon GS variant 'now known as the Ford Cobra' and included the following additions:
" Scheel KBA 90018 front seats. Weight of seats:15.2 kg
" Wheel type now one-piece alloy. Weight of wheel: 7.6 kg
" Revised front spoiler
  etc etc...  "

If you want to make some money, advertise them on a falcon site..... :)

Thanks for your input so far everyone, Photos would be great Peter thankyou
O.K so I know the car is NOT original RS it is a mock fiberglass front and custom ass end. It does have the RS dash, Rear sway bar, and not much else lol, the 2lt block is marked as a "20" i have run the numbers and it's a Sundowner '78 motor, from earlier research i know that Sheel and A.S.S were somehow related and some earlier escort possibly mk1 had A.S.S brand while others were branded Scheel. I am very curious on why they have different id tags  (typ ?/01/s on drivers seat) (typ 203 passenger) Possibly one aftermarket one original?

I think they are genuine Scheels, but aftermarket. Here's an aftermarket ad from the 70s - note the placement of the logo. They did them in black too, but I used this image because it is clearer.

Nice rack too!

XD ESP Falcons also came with Scheel seats as standard, so could easily be made to fit Escorts. Len
