G'day guys,

So a few months ago I decided to update the suspension on my Mk1 escort with the intention of slowly updating and upgrading components. I ordered a set of GAZ coilovers for the front and also have KMAC strut tops. Unfortunately I have had to get several parts to get the coilovers to fit.

It's a '75, 1300xl four speed four door, and it's become apparent to me that many of the new parts I have ordered do not fit my poverty pack factory parts, such as hubs and discs and steering arms.

So it was off to SMCKA where I now have alloy hubs and new bearings which slide onto the GAZ coilovers, but unfortunately my discs do not match the alloy hubs.

My question is, should 2 litre discs fit these hubs, and on top of that, would the standard calipers suit 2 litre discs or would I need to look at investing in bigger/better calipers?

Cheers, Jeremy.

I came from the other direction and had alloy hubs that wouldn't suit the 2.0L struts. I'm assuming I now have the same Gazz strut / alloyhub combo and unsure why the discs won't fityour hubs as I would have thought they should. Saying that im using a Hi-Spec brake kit. I'm also unsure if the alloy hubs position the disc in the same position to suit the original caliper location.

Some may have been down the track before with the identical problem.

Just bolted my vented rotors from the 2.0L hubs onto the alloy ones no problem. Thinking the solid rotors should do the same.

It doesn't seem to a simple swap does it Paul! Why can't it just be an easy bolt on haha!

The vented discs do look promising though. Do you have a part number or suggest where to get vented discs to suit?

I've had a look at the hispec calipers and I'd likel to upgrade to those in the future, but for now do you think the standard calipers would be alright or would tracking down some M16 calipers be more beneficial?

Sorry for peppering you with questions, I'm relatively new to the modifying of escorts and would prefer to have a bit of info under my belt instead of just buying and hoping for the best as it hasn't worked out too well so far.

Cheers, Jeremy

I'm a little unfamiliar with the Mk1 hence some of my info may be inaccurate. As for vented look for the Capri vented rotor.

Hi Jeremy,

If you are trying to bolt Mk1 discs to Mk2 hubs they won't fit as they are smaller in most dimensions as you can see from the DBA catalogue in the picture below (you may need to save the image to your computer then you can zoom in to read it). You can check the disc locating boss diameter on your new hub and compare it to the Mk2 disc dimensions and I think you will find it to be the same.
I used Capri vented discs on my Mk2 hubs, I purchased the discs and M16 caliper spacer kit from Motorsport Tools in the UK

Cheers Blue, this is exactly what I was after.

That info has helped heaps, and I'll measure everything up when I'm with the car next.

Thanks again, much appreciated :)
