Are you after a complete facia or just the vents that are circled? If your only after the vents they are the same as TE (mark 4) Cortina. I have a facia if your after the whole lot... Also have an ashtray and the mounting trim for the console but no switches. The trim just screws onto any aus spec console...
Cheers Drew...

Hi,

Is the "facia" the whole unit I´ve circled in the attached image in this reply? In that case I would be interested. But I´m guessing the facia is built for right hand car? My car is left handed so if that´s the case it wont fit. Thanks for info about the vents, I´ve googled and as I understand, it is the australian Cortina mk4 that has the escort mk2 air condition vents? Do you have the vents or only the whole unit?

Regards Linus

Ahh you crazy swede's driving lhd cars on the right side of the road... Just kidding
I'm thinking the australian unit is not for you, try vintage air or one of the US sights, they should be able to help with an underdash unit to suit...
Good luck with it Drew...

You can make it to fit, I started of with bits and pieces that were original Escort parts but I was also missing the fascia panel etc, so I looked at photos and set off making one to suit, also using Cortina vents, as soon as I had finished I scored a factory panel, I surprised myself how close I was even the extra screw holes lined up. My air con guy setting it up said the ford under-dash unit was out of their catalogue and suggest I could of got a new unit. In the end it was what I wanted as I did not want to do away with my centre console unit and fitted the switch gear where the clock was meant to be.

Does this mean that an under dash unit is still available for sale from somewhere (and by that I don't mean Ford, but rather an aftermarket thing)?

Looks good JVC, moving the controller to the dash is a good idea too... Incidentally the clock and cigarette lighter is from a 70's Fairlane, Ford really raided the parts bin when they made this set up.
Cheers Drew

Nice JVC and thanks for sharing info. Maybe it isn´t a bad idea using the escort mk2 facia. One problem I saw with using facia from RHD was how to make the rough plastic finish look good after modification that involves cutting. But in your picture it looks like the facia has smooth blank finish? In that case a new paint would cover it up. And also, do you know where I can get the vents? Is there an e-shop in Australia who sell them?

The panel in this picture has what I call "rough plastic", probably the wrong word for it. Pic from google.

Mine is smooth finish as I folded it out of 1mm steel, I also used the cigarette lighter from the Escort console[along with all the switch gear] as it was backlit.  Ford panel did not use this as it fouled on the duct work.
Ford did raid the parts bin in creating this option and I wandered wrecking yards looking at different vents I could use and few were suitable [one that was on the short list even had a small motor that oscillated the vents].  however I stuck to Cortina vents just to make it some what look more original. Then I had the decals made up just to the dress it.
Interior was the easier bit for me, I had more dramas fitting the compressor in the engine bay as I did not want to relocate battery as to keep the car factory original, my compressor mounts under the alternator as the after market units did, however I wanted to fit extractors and these fouled on the alternator, so every thing needed to go lower, so low that the compressor belt goes through the bottom radiator hose.
All the mods that I fitted to this car are reversible easily as they are only bolt on mods, that's why the battery had to stay were it was. My RS was a one owner car and I did not want to butcher it. That's why I took this course.
