Hi guys ive recently got my pinto back for the rs and was wondering if I should replace the rods
they took it out to 60thou over and its got a stage 3 head on it

It wont be getting a hiding all the time just a slight tickle at the track every now and then thats about it should I bother or just whack a limiter on it at about 6900 rpm?

No need to replace the rods, but good idea to replace the rod bolts with something stronger.
If you can get a copy of David Vizard's book How To Modify Ford SOHC Engines (ISBN 0 86343 0856) will tell you exactly what to do in easy speak language without spending a furtune. Highly recommended.

I'd recommend ARPs to, after being given a pinto with a window in the side of the block and a few pieces of cast iron in the sump , the piston has stress cracks and the rod cracked from stress ! I couldn't find the big end cap...might have escaped thru the window it created ...anyway its a trophy now !

Thanks heaps guys all bolts have bein replaced just retained the rods themselves.. Was abit worried about them being my first pinto haha done the smart thing though and removed the matching engine and pushed her under the work bench juust incase

For the price i would.  A few of us are using the SPOOL brand rods with ARP bolts and they are great.  I have been racing on these for almost 5 years.  Rods were always the weak point in pinto's and now those rods are 35+ years old so they certainly wont have got better in their old age.
The only thing to take into consideration is the SPOOL rods are cosworth length which means they are 2.5mm longer so piston tops either need to be machined (not ideal) or forged pistons made to suit which is what we have done.
At around $350-400 a set these days they are great value.

I think Cossie length rods are 1.5mm longer GDub, not 2.5mm. 

You are probably right Flighter. I built mine a few years ago

1mm can be a big deal when sizing pistons, so I thought it worth mentioning.  Been pondering some Spool rods myself actually.

Spool rods for the Pinto are no more unfortunately. Any recommendations for a decent replacement?
