But the zetec has other things going for it better than a 4age in an escort.
- Type 9 escort box & sierra 5 speed will bolt straight up on Zetec with the correct clutch setup, 4age you'll need custom bell housing & clutch setup to suit escort box (headache), or a theres a toyota spirit box but if they will fit without tunnel modification I'm not so sure, and may need a custom tail shaft to suit?
- Ford zetec is same manufacturer so is usually easier to engineer (last i checked) than a change of manufacturer.
- Toyota may have similar power but the torque is a bit different. Remember its torque that wins races!
Either engine is pretty similar in type etc. And require similar work really. Id imagine the zetec being a ford engine and a common install by ford enthusiasts now, would have better resale down the track to if you do want to sell it.
It may cost slightly more to get the Zetec in but probably the much better end result once its done.
