Hi hotboostgt,
thanks for asking, and you're welcome...................
ronsmallford knows more about it than I do, but from memory, ONLY the CK17ME were the "last eleven" and only these "last eleven" got the 165HP Up-rated "D" Port engine, Up-rated Gearbox and Diff, along with re-enforced Body.   .................."Delete" models were always available for clients who didn't want the "bling" of stripes or black-outs on their GT order.......Ron sent me an official letter from Ford, detailing the "last eleven" with relative info.............hope this helps.

What were the changes to the diff and gearbox?

I believe, from what I was told by those more knowing than me, that the gearbox was much heavier duty by way of bigger close-ratio gears, bigger bearings, and side-shift rods via floor-mounted shift/gate as opposed to earlier standard boxes that were top-loader design with on-board shift/gate and built-in selector rods. The Diff was built with heavier/larger bearings and lower ratio for "longer legs"(higher top-speed)...........maybe Ron, or John or Terry can confirm or correct ?
cheers
Bernie

As I understand it, the only difference with the Mk1 1/2 gearbox was that the 2nd gear ratio was changed and the selecting was changed from the clumsy side rods to the 'top loader' style, no changes to other gears or bearings. Also, the crown wheel and pinion only were changed to 3.09:1 from the standard 3.22:1. I don't believe that their were any other changes to the axles or to the bearings on the axles. Terry

So other than D port heads the driveline is essentially the same as a 72 V6.  Same 3.09 diff, same gearbox ratios, just a better gear selecter.  Is that right?

The australian capri v6 mechanicals were the same for the entire model run (69 to 72). This consisted of oval port 3000cc engine, side linkage gearbox and 3.22 diff.
The eleven "specials" of which only four were sold direct to the public and were marketed by bib stillwells as fully imported capris. (even tho they were assembled at homebush). These consisted of D port engine, same side linkage box but with higher ratio second gear, and same diff but with 3.09 crownwheel and pinion.
The shells for these cars were all assembled in august 72 and so all have the CK17ME body prefix. After that it gets a little tricky as we now have bernies car which has a sep72 plate, mine which has a november 72 plate and Murrays car which has the twin plate system of 1973. All three are noted on the list of eleven from ford.
There are plenty of capris getting around now with these mods that have been fitted at a later date. The blue car in qld thats nearly finished has all these parts. The crownwheel and pinion are available and are an easy fit. The side linkage box can be fitted with the second gear and layshaft gears from the later type 5 box or even fit the type 5 complete which has internal gear shift.
The "specials" claim to fame is that they will be the only australian cars to have dport motors with an austalian prefix to their engine number.
regards, ...ron.

oh, I thought all cars after Oct 71 got the 3.09 and upgraded 2nd gear. Mine is April 72 and has 3.09, not sure about 2nd gear.

ALL Australian assembled GT/V6s (except the 11 'specials') had the 3.22:1 crown wheel and pinion diff as mentioned in my post above and they did not receive the improved 2nd gear. The changes that you are referring to from October 1971 were only used on the UK version of their 3-litre Capri's. What we call the Mk.1 1/2 or update model, which we here in Australia never received. If, yours is an Australian assembled April 1972 model (ie. CK17xx12345P), then it has had the update 3:09.1 crown wheel and pinion fitted later, or, is it an imported UK model?

Further, if your Capri is an Australian built one then the chassis plate should actually read CK17MG12345P, where 12345 is the unique sequence number allocated to your Capri. M being the year 1972 and G being the month of April. Cheers, Terry
