Getting back to being on Topic, it's been some 7 years since buying my GTV6 with about 5 of those years using her at least one day out of every 10. Amazingly, the previous owner of some 10+ years reckoned he never touched the Carby!
After stripping the motor, which has the same matching number as on the Shocker Tower, and on the Tags, and found it in impeccable as-new condition bar the Ex Valves, one thing I also never touched was the 38DGAS Weber Carby, as it performed brilliantly from DAY1 to today. Having overhauled my fair share of Carbies for the last 40 odd years, I know to leave well enough alone, especially if a Carby is ok and is protected by a Genuine 100% NOS Z14 Fuel Filter.
These Italians at Weber sure knew their stuff when they designed their products, as OLD Aussie RYCO Australia knew when building Filters pre 1990.
From memory, so good were Webers designs, that I believe Holley copied Weber under Licence and they too enjoyed reliablity with many Ford/Autolite Carbies.(UIVMM)
The Holley on my 1965 AP5 Valiant is a case in point: single barrel Holley has been there since my Aunt purchased the Valiant brand new as has NEVER been over-hauled in over 100,000 miles(160K). Bowl alone was removed some 35 years ago for solely a squirt of Carby Cleaner and put back! EVEN the simple 1965 Remote Bi-Metal Automatic Choke is still working as-new to this day! Must have something to do with non-abusive driving and garaged every day of its life ?
I wonder if anyone here has purchased an aftermarket repro of the Weber DGAS or DFAV that is commonly seen on ebay, and could they please comment as to their performance and longevity ? (Fake Weber)
