BEE VEE
HI EVERYONE AND HAPPY NEW YEAR ! (special hello to Glenn, Don and John)
This is my first post since I recently acquired a 1972 GTV6 WILD PLUM original Capri in original condition except for new n/g exhaust and n/g chromies..............everything else is 100% Factory.
Has been laying in a shed since 2008, but started first pop (after due diligence performed)*, and let me drive her 200kms home without a single incident !.....while I passed 6 or 7 "newish" cars broken down being helped by RACV or friends ! ...........all the gauges as well as the Smiths clock worked flawlessly. Had no idea I was buying such a rare delight of a car, till I drove it 200kms home, and then asked "around" and so many shaking their head in disbelief........... Put the Capri on the hoist for a good check over, and to my surprise, the only rust is a 10c coin size hole near RH drivers door hinge and "u/paint bubbles" in guard nearby, and guard wells behind rear tyres. I realise I'll find more when and if I pull vehicle apart, but this is the only obvious bits I can find, which aint bad for over 40 years!...........Having the Yellow/Black decal on A/f and Firewall warning of 165HP, and built in Nov 1972, I welcome any member to suggest ways to prove that this car is or isn't one of the "ELEVEN" specials of which only a few have been accounted for......................cheers, Bernie

Hi Bernie good to see you found your way here. This is the first time Ive seen pics of the rest of the car it looks good. To prove its provinance is a matter of checking its number against the list of eleven cars. (CK17ME and so on). I will post it up here soon unless someone beats me to it.
Additionaly it appears to be a delete option car as well. This means that the gt badge on the side is put back to the rear flank and car is supplied without side stripes, bonnet and boot blackouts and bonnet pins.
I am thrilled to see this car surface, this makes three cars here, and one or two others possibly being restored. Im not quite sure why they are all turning up in Vic. even mine was originaly a Vic car.

Nice car and a great find, I can't go past a Capri now without checking to see if it's one of the BBS cars....
Glenn you said they did Cortina's and Escort's aswell, where were the badges located on them? Or will that open a can of worms, I'll be looking out for them aswell
Cheers Drew.......

Thanks everyone for your nice comments..........errata: I incorrectly said it was a NOV72 build: it's SEP72..............
Auto suggestion must have caused that "blue", with the fact I think Aust Production stopped in NOV72 ??????
I read somewhere in here someone had a spare "165 HP yellow/black" decal, which I wouldn't mind buying, as my
Capri is missing one on Dr Door and only has 2 under the bonnet.
NB>>>>>>does anyone know if the early Mustang "F O R D" letters from their bonnet has pins that will fit the boot holes on the Capri ? (Mine are missing, as is the BSS Badge which I'm guessing would have been on this car ?
cheers

Bernie,
The bodyshells for these cars were assembled at Homebush in august72 hence the prefix ck17me, ( the ck part meaning homebush australia, 17 meaning gt, me meaning august 72). Then the shells were finished off as the parts became available hence the different dates on the id plate. This would also explain the small variations between the cars such as air filters, front engine covers, and style of front seats.

I have some of the yellow and black stickers and will post you a couple. These stickers were sent from ford to the owners of the 4 bss cars so that would explain the variation of sticker locations even tho the ford letter advised where to affix them. (engine bay, cover of maintainence booklet and side window). The first owner of my car for instance decided that the window location wasnt the best so put it on the edge of the drivers door.

If the mustang ford letters arent exactly the same in appearence please dont use them as the originals are easy found, being used also on the mk1 escort.

Of the eleven cars only four were sold by bib stillwell so only these four should have the BSS badge on the bootlid. Your car is one of the other seven that ford sent directly to executives in the company to be used as company cars for a time. For instance yours went to O E Suiter of head office, so these seven were not sold to the market as new cars. So after a time these cars would have been onsold to dealers as low mileage secondhand cars. It could have been that they were gathered up and sold to victorian dealer/s as a lot which would explain why they are turning up in vic.
Cheers ,,,ron.

Your car was originally delivered in Delete Option trim, the stripes and blackouts were added later.  I have a BSS bootlid badge if you really want one

Thanks a mill Ron,

I'm amazed at your wealth of knowledge!
........is it known what role this OE Suiter played at Ford ? .....and was he at Campbellfield or Sydney ?

I'm worried my silver bonnet & stripes and rear silver "bum" aren't correct : do you know Ron if the Silver is correct and/or if the patterns/positions are correct  ? ....... or is this why mine is called a "delete" model (hockey sticks also missing)

I forgot to mention in all the excitement, that the car came with a Genuine Australian Ford Factory Shop Manual
in VG condition, which in the unlikely event you need, I'd be happy to p/copy and send any pages at all.

*** Was it you, or Glenn that mentioned they'd have some new or used Cyl/Hd I&E Valves ?
I'm hoping to repair No3 cyl after Jan 26 at Fed Square (subject to rain)

Cheers.............Bernie
