G'day all,
Big day today, moved into the new garage, floors not painted yet but having spent a few weeks off the car I couldn't wait to get back into it... Engine went back in, the plans are still for a group 1 style motor with a pair of idf's but I thought I'd get the old one in, started, exhaust done, brakes working and any gremlins sorted out so as not to be playing silly buggers with a freshly built engine.
I now have a new 'to do' list as long as my arm. First things first this floor needs painting and theres a little more to do on the interior before I can tick that off the list for good... Anyway it's back out to the garage for me one small job at a time...
Cheers Drew...

Hi Drew,
Car is coming along nicely. I'm doing the opposite engine wise- Had too much trouble with my DCOe's with tuning and have fitted a 350 Holley. Engine now idles properly, pulls hard and with my new big bore pipes goes more smoothly and sounds more mellow under load. Len

Thanks for the feedback guys, hey JP going with a two pack epoxy, use it at work with tractors and trucks etc, bit worried about how it goes when I start welding, only one way to find out I suppose G'day Len are you using a stock manifold with an adapter? The cars always had webers in its different incarnations, single 38 and 45 dcoe's, the sidedraughts were a big learning curve for me, was never really satisfied so it looks like it'll be back to the books to set up the idf's, I kinda like playing with webers, or maybe I'm a glutton for punishment, haha, either way it'll give me something to do when the car is done...
Finished off the seats today and added a pick of the car with its younger brother...
Cheers Drew....

Hi Drew,
Yes, using std manifold and adaptor plate. Carb is race prepped and came off my brothers race engine, pulls easy 8000 rpm so will easily handle street duties. My brother came up from bris for a week so got him to bring it and fit it. Bit of messing around to adapt to street with fittings for vacuum and heater hoses but got it sorted. Also finished bling with anodized fittings for braided hoses, had parts in "to do " box for a while. Don't have patience for webers anymore- didn't help with dud spark plug and timing out, plus air leaks when trying to tune. Enjoyed driving the RS for the first time in a while after mods done. Have now got our second car back from daughter so now don't have to do jobs on the RS in such a rush! Your beast is coming along nicely!
Cheers,
Len

Cheers Len, there was an adapter in the old spares shop around the corner, had a layer of dust on it an inch thick, I always wondered about it.....
Fun and games started with the carbs today, got a manifold from a reputable source, put the new studs in that were supplied with it and went to slide it on, no go... had to put it on the press and drill out the stud holes a to get it to fit...
With that on I though I'd check the port match, the gasket fits my head ports perfectly so with a bit of blue tack I got it to stick to the manifold and took it off for a look... out by a mile... marked and checked again before it was back to the bench for some more work... didn't take long carbide bits love alloy, textured it up best I could to match the rest as I've heard conflicting stories on whether to polish or not...

True, theory is that polish job will give u better gas speed but texture will help with fuel droplet dispersal and atomisation.  Unfortunately there r differences between manifolds, had to reshape my preprepped gasket going from twins manifold back to Ford one. Are you going to use a throttle cable setup or linkages?  Len

The postman dropped off a present today I've just rested them on the manifold for now, working all weekend so hopefully there will be a chance to get stuck into setting them up during the week... The trumpets came supplied but unfortunately will be going in favour of air cleaners. Don't think they'll fit anyway unless I hang them out the bonnet 90's street machine style, lol...
Hey Len, will be going with a cable set up just need to make a mount for the cable to attach too near the carbs...
Cheers Drew...
