Hey guys,
i know i mentioned this on the old forum but have has anyone thought about quad throttle bodies? I have read they provide great low down torque on the gti-r, but as we all know the heads are compleatly different, and the manifold wont bolt up to the RWD sr20det's so you need to have a custom manifold/plenum etc etc.
Does anyone think its worth it? or just stick with a singe throttle body?90mm or whatever?
Cheers
Barney

Also can anyone recommend any where to get a custom made radiator and intercooler??I'm in Camden NSW but don't mind travelling if the works done right!

Turbo or N/A?? Wouldn't waist time and money going quad throttle with the SR20DET in an Escort. What point is having more Kilowasps if you can't sting with it??

SR20DE in an Escort on the other hand.. YES SIR!!

That pic is of a SR20DE in a 280ZX (I think??). Contact www.efihardware.com (Australian company) for more info.

Theres a few guys down south that run quad throttle bodys well there in the process of setting them up...
Check out ikeya formula website they sell the setup...
I personaly dont think its worth it and alot of guys will agree... By the time u get the kit and hav it setup properly the gains r minimal over single tb

As or throttle body 90mm is wayyyyyyy to big... The standard s13 throttlebody is good for 650hp...
Im running an 80mm BMI billet throttle body on my setup and im chasing somwere aroud 600/700rwhp through an auto... I would stick with somthig around 70/75mm help keep response etc n help the turbo com on a bit quicker...

I was only thinking along these lines as i have a gti-r setup sat in the garage, looks like everyone agee i don't think its worth the $$$ to modify and setup so will give it a miss.

esc-078:
yeah would be on a sr20det s13, but re-thinking i think i'll have more than enough power to keep me happy

sorry mate just through in 90mm as a number off the top off my head was no real thought put into that, thanks for the advice i will stick to the standard size

Price wise id allow an easy 12k to do it properly
Just depends wat you want really... If u just want to drop a standard setup in and hook up standard computer etc it might com in a bit cheaper but i think 12k is good figure by the time u allow for all the little bits and peices and if a shop is going to do most of it then add labour which will be a bit more again...

Were r u located?

Pretty sure u cant buy crossmembers ud be better off jus getting custom mounts made... Itl only be like 500 for engine and gearbox cross members

Hey guys, interesting and useful thread here. I've had heaps of escorts and now finally have some money to build one with a tough motor. Just got myself a good condition'79  mk2 xl coupe with a 1600 manual in it, and have a blacktop sr20det with 6 speed lined up to look at buying. My first question would be: Is it worth putting in with this box, if not which box should I go for, and what is needed in the way of adapting it to fit the sr? I'm hoping for around 300-350 flywheel horsepower when finished. At this stage I just want to get the engine and whatever box I'm running mated to it, and then fabricate / adapt the engine mounts, crossmember, gearbox mounts and get it all sitting in there properly, work out where the radiator / cooler and plumbing will be and then send it off for paint. Can I make / modify engine mounts to fit without welding anything to the chassis rails? I've got a feeling that might make it hard to get engineered in WA.

Any help much appreciated, cheers!

The 6spd box is decent but from wat ive heard/read the 5spd box is a bit stronger... Both will handle the power u r chasing

As for engine mounts if u can get hold of 510POM or som 1 who has used his cross member and get som pics etc to get an idea of how to go about it...

Thanks esky79, I'll see if I can PM 510pom yet, I'm a freshie here so it wouldn't let me before even tho I'd met criteria. I plan to be dropping the clutch, a lot ha ha, a guy has a 100,000km (legit) blacktop w 6 speed, clutch, tailshaft, including loom, turbo and ecu for 2500 which I think is pretty cheap. Could be the go

Yer thats a decent price...
The 5spd/6spd boxs wil cop a bit of abuse with 300rwhp... So should be fine... Plus escorts dont way yo much n ull prob only hav a 205ish size tyre under it...
Id prob get the box pulled down and give it a freshen up shouldnt cost much and itl last longer...
