Does hi-temp paint for extractors have a life span? and does it burn once that time is up?

I can see and smell smoke coming from the hot side of the engine bay but can't determine if it's the paint burning of the pipes or the fire foil I installed on the clutch cable 18 months ago

Was it the VHT hi temp stuff? and how hard did it get driven? my shiny new 'hi temp' paint job blistered and smoked after the first use, lesson learned sticking with ceramic coating now....
Cheers Drew...........

Hi Drew

The pipes have been painted for about two years, I used 3M brand 600deg from supercheap (when they used to sell 3M)
No not driving it hard but my Pinto was running lean from an idle circuit blockage in the 32/36 weber. I cleared the blockage tonight but still smoking in the engine bay. Maybe the overtemps from lean mixture broke down the paint and now it's stuffed

yeah VHT is pretty much all there is in the way of spraypacks now. The 3M paint worked really well probably due to the nasty chemicals in it (Chromium)

thanks for your reply

Mine smoked with vht paint but only while they were baking in
And now the paint is falling off like Drewdog's. No smoke now, the paint just falls off in patches when it decides to

There isnt any traces of oil on the extractors? I had a tiny bit of oil small enough for me to not notice it that smoked quite a bit

Cheers,
Ryan

Also might be worth checking that its not leaking brake fluid.

Smokes all gone now, it pretty much stopped after I cleaned the carb. No oils or fluids were on the pipes.
I redid the flange gasket at the base of the extractors a few weeks ago and used a smear of red high temp silicone on the gasket faces but it looked ok, unburnt.

Thanks
