Hey everyone. I seem to be having trouble tuning my pinto here is the specs it's a pinto with a 32/36 carb medium sized cam and a points-less dizzy and the whole motor is freshly built. It will start and run but won't idle unless the idle speed screw is wound all the way in. Also the idle mixture screw does nothing. I've checked for a blockage and it seems all clear and checked for a vacuume leak by spraying wd40 around the carb but nothing changes. Also the dizzy body is really hot.

Any tips?
Thanks

I'll assume the aftermarket Point-less Dizzy is not BOSCH, which is the only EI I would ever trust.
THE quickest and easiest "first step" is remove that Dizzy and put back the original Points type Dizzy after ensuring the points, condenser, cap and rotor are all up to spec..............I'm sure you'll notice a big difference
Let us know what gives!
After you do the above, whether good or not, a Mechanic's best friend is the humble VACCUM Guage..........learn to use its tell-tale "signs" and reap the rewards!
Cheers

Your ignition at idle needs to be advanced a bit if you have a longer duration camshaft in.

I'll try put the old dizzy back in. But if it's running wouldn't you think that adjusting the mixture screw would alter the idle regardless of what dizzy is in?? Nothing changes when I wind the screw in or out

The idle jet could be too small.. ie 45 you can sometimes swap it with the one on other side of carby which often is a 55 or bigger. Try that along with cam timing and static timing adjustments. This other thing is a trick I used to do when it just idles on full wound in.. Take carby off and drill a 1.5 to 2mm hole in the throttle plate, this will get the idle screw back to normal. If to big it can always be so soldered shut. UK sell gears to transform the 32/36 to make both throttles open together.... I did this 20yrs ago using RC buggy gears which still works today. Doing this makes the carb run efficiently and gives better response low down. Hope this Tech helps

Thanks guys. I noticed that when i play with the hose on my vacuume advance the idle changes a little so i might replace the hose and see if that helps. Its a regrind cam done by clive cams the centre line is 108 deg

Sounds like your ignition and /or cam timing is retarded. The reason the mixture screw doesn't respond is because you throttle plate is too far open and no longer on idle circuit. With that much throttle opening It is running on progression and main circuits.

Cheers
