A follow up to the turbo noob Question here goes one on ECU's.
I need to manage a Zetec turbo motor, nothing fancy just something to do the job. I'l run an internal gated turbo with standard ignition coilsif possible, using a single throttle body manifold ex RST escort and standard ford injectors if i can get away with it.
Been looking at the megasquirt, EMS stinger, usual suspects like Haltech and microtech. I have all standard sensors for the zetec so something that wont need 'special' sensors would be sweet, ignition is via a 36-1 crank trigger and will also have cam sensor available.
Advise and lessons learned by others are welcome.

EMS stinger is not real-time IIRC and that lack of feature is painful.  Haltech have a really good range of ecu's currently with good support.  Microtech is very primative but can work well if tuned well.  Have a look at the adaptronic also.

Hi Tex, I got a haltec from Jem (on williamson rd) he did a good job and we are happy with his after sales service.
not a turbo, as you know, but still worth a phone call.

Another Question is what do most people use for car speed indication, I see most basic ecu's require this? Can it be done without, if economy isn't important?

I use an EMS Stinger, not turbo but it serves its purpose well. I'm not really up with the latest ECUs but at the time of purchase it was the best value for money unit I could find (excluding Megasquirt).

I use a Wolf3D Ver4 for my pinto but it is not turbo. It was easy to setup and has all the features you would need for your project. It is customisable and has been without issue for over 3 years now.

i run megasquirt II v3 on my pinto turbo with EDIS ignition seems to run good but i can only recomment ms if you plan on doing everything yourself its a good way to learn about efi, but i guess it depends what you want to do with your car, eg. if you wanted to get it tuned it would probably be an issue trying to find someone or even taking more time on the dyno costing more money , defeating the purpose of the it, but in my case it was everything i wanted

Any current ecu's from the well known brand names should be ok, the thing I would be placing at number one on the list is which ecu will you get the best support for...support is the most important thing you will ever need after making your choice.

By support I mean, tuning, fault finding, advice, guidance....etc etc. Any thing you might need!! And good quality free support is always nice as well!!
