Hi Guys,

I need to rebuild my diff as it's really noisy.

My cousin gave me a heap of spares including 2 sets of crown wheels & pinions.

My questiosn is how do you kno wif they are rooted and if so can you get them resurfaced or something? Can post better pics if that's easier.

Also I found these on UK eBay

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LOTUS-CORTINA-7-FORD-ESCORT-ENGLISH-DIFF-REBUILD-KIT-/310297832700?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item483f312cfc

Has anyone had any success with them and would you recommend I have a go to rebuild the diff as I have built engines but have no ideas on diffs?

Hi

Start by checking the crown wheel and pinion surfaces to see if the hardening has worn off. If it has worn off I don't think they will be much good

If you want a diff to be quiet get it done by a diff specialist. There is a fair bit of stuffing around getting the pinion height and teeth mesh correct that most people wouldn't be able to do at home.

There is a reason most mechanics send them off to specialists and then just refit the rebuilt unit.

I had a go at rebuilding it but I think I used the wrong tape.

What type should I be using?

Cheers
