Just after a quick bit of info so that I am prepared if I need to source something....

Has anybody put a collapsible steering column in a Mk1 (or Mk2) Escort? I dont like the idea of being impailed if I have a front end crash.

Did you modify the existing setup or replace it with a whole system from another car?

Escort Mk2 had a collapsible ateering wheel instead.... (dont ask why...as I have no idea, but I asked the same question years ago as a Mk2 Escort is required to have one given the years it was produced)

If you look at the factory steering wheels you will notice the corrigated section that effectively is the boss... This is designed to collapse in case of a crash... (I have seen one in a crashed Escort, and it looks like it would still hurt though...)

Unless you have an aftermrket steering wheel - in which case you not only no longer meet ADR's and are illegal, but you may get impaled in case of a crash....
