Hey guys, just bout to start doing my 2 door mk2 up.
i think its a rally pak model? its 1980 mod, square headlights,
sports dash with tacho.

I have few ideas bout engines, it has a strong 2ltr and when i was young i fitted a celica 5 speed so it makes sense to keep it and get some more out of it. should i inject it? find a better carbie set up,
or just do the SR20 front??

im not after any more than 140 hp so any of your ideas would be appreciated. Cheers Jerry

my opinion is to forget the SR20 purely on the fact that you ruin the Escort my doing such a thing. If you want nice quiet reliable power other than that of a clunky Pinto, gor for a nice neet Zetec set up.at least this way its all "ford" and it just seems like a modern upgrade keeping it all in the family. I dunno the second i see an SR20 in an Escort...its lost its charm. Alternatively a cosworth :-)

Go the Duratec thing, not many done here.
Or Zetec...

I agree about the SR, over them...

Each to their own and it depends on your expectations.

The SR is a tight fit and can be done. Duratec is the new engine to be orientated to the RWD format into the Escort and whilst a decent option it's still a little pricey (both engine, and conversion parts). Bang for buck I still think the Zetec is a good solution as it will bolt up to your current box.

But then again I'm biased

Thanx lads, well i,ll have some time to think about it whilst doing body work but i think i,ll just get a cam kit and a nice carbie and stick with the pinto.

Without spending 2000 on twin webbers what woulb be a good carbie option?

If ur only chasing around 140hp i wouldn't go sr... I would go with the zetec option pretty sure u can but kits to bolt them in...

Is it really worth replacing the strong pinto and celica box?

Keep the Celica box / bell housing and bolt it to the Zetec........

If your car is a 2 door rally pack might be best to keep it with the pinto in it. My hunch is that one day not far away good quality rally packs will be (are) much rarer, more desirable, better looking and worth more dollars than the Aussie Mk 2 RS.....but usually my hunches are totally wrong.....

decided to replace the pinto with sr20.
