I didn't think people connected them to air filters still??

Everytime I revved the piss out of mine the cap came off[(#)]

Do you ever have problems with the paint coming off ? I've heard of block internals being painted to seal the casting but that's with special paint.

So is it just regular engine paint ?

Yep,

Just the heat proof engine paint you get in the can.

The "special paint" is just armature paint, any rewinding shop has it or can get it. It is a heavy air drying varnish/resin that resists oil. If the surface is not preped properly it will flake off just like any paint. It really needs to be baked to maximise adhesion and ensure full cure.

I have seen piston tops coated with flame proof paint.
