A question for those who have a better memory than me.

Did the Australian Midnight Blue RS2000's have the sill panels painted black?

Thanks!

Yes.  They were exactly the same in detail to all the other colours, even down to the stripes and decals being black which meant you couldnt see them.

My decals and stripes will all be some shade of silver / charcoal to match the wheels when it goes back together.

Thanks Gdub,

When we were kids I remember thinking that the stripes were a bit of a waste of effort.

Are you restoring a Midnight RS2000?

All blackouts were the same, but if memory serves correct the midnight blue ones had red stripes from the factory and were the odd one out. The other 4 factory colours had the black multi pin stripes. Not the best colour combo. Given time I could probably find an old photo slide from the period '79 to early 80's.

I don't recall any red stripes from the factory, My midnight shell has black stripes, I would consider if I keep the colour red or gold stripes and decals to match along with the rims.

Yeah i am positive they never left the factory with anything other than black stripes and decals.  Mine has had the stripes removed years ago but still has the tails inside the doors.

Thanks Gdub for the 'thumbs down' but you are wrong. Hope you are not going to tell me the RS2000 decals were black too from the factory on the midnight ones? Some remnant stripe tails over original paint proves nothing. Anybody who pressure washed their car without care damaged the stripes. Also the red stripes didn't look that flash on the midnight colour so often they were changed by early owners.  I've attached a picture of a (sad looking) car courtesy of it's original owner which may jog a few of the older enthusiasts memories out there.
Buying new, the decals were black on the red/orange/yellow & white but red from the factory on the blue. That's not to say late in 1980 dealers could have restriped to more attractive stripes or possibility of a special build from the factory.
Hopefully the pic comes thru, I haven't attached  pics before.
