Hi all,
Im in the early stages of restoring my 4 door RS and am tracking down parts. My issue is that a lot of parts I am getting from the UK and they call their parts by some names I dont know eg what is the gearbox in my car known as, I know its just a standard box with a short throw shifter but the poms have heaps of boxes, ie single rail, rocket box, type 2, type 4 , type E etc
Also are the front brake calipers M16's or "princess"
   What is ATE/TEVES braking system.
                 Cheers

Shep,
Std RS2000 had M16 Girling calipers. The "princess" calipers are from an Austin Princess, which are 4 spot cast iron and were a popular mod in the 80s/90s. They are boat anchors though, and I'm sure you could find cheaper alloy calipers these days. Popular mod was(is) also to buy spacers to space out the M16s for vented "Group 1" discs (standard diameter brake rotor but vented and as a result subsequently wider)

ATE is(was) the manufacturer of the brake servo and other parts for the UK cars. FYI, your gearbox is a Type E box (if standard)

Cheers

Ok thats some helpful info thanks. Am I right in assuming that my standard type E gearbox is also sometimes refered to as a rocket box even though it may not technically be a rocket box. My short throw RS shifter is flogged out. Im not sure what the issue is yet as its still in the car but I am eyeing off some quaife short shifters/mod kits from the UK which are for the type E/rocket box.

No your gearbox is a single rail.  A rocket box is usually got more to do with a straight cut gearset.

Hey Stu, sorry I only just saw your post. October is a busy month for me ( bathurst among other things!!!)  How much are smacka's shifters , and what make are they? I dont have the original RS gear knob on it any more and Id like to. I saw on this forum a guy called Peter I think who is making repro gear knobs, I posted on his thread but he never replied to it

Shep, the shifters may be a bit more than I paid for mine! got it at the RSOC Concourse a couple of years ago. Check on SMCKA's site for new prices. Its an easy fit and better to use!
