I own a MK1 Escort with a wheazy ol pinto. This has set me back in excess of over $20000 over the period I have owned it.Now thats what I call budget[88][88]



I'd place a number somewhere around 60k-80k on mine over 16 years after the current rebuild...and its only as low as that as a result of getting things at the right price and mates rates on some special one of gear that has been required

....Well it is hard to argue value for money. How much fun have you had, easy; LOADS! Average that out p/a and suddenly any 16 year old car would have had a bomb spent on it over the years...See how comparing things properly changes things...Again arguing cash spent is about as useful as arguing that "the crocodile that is about to eat you is slightly cross eyed" (Clarkson 2009)...It does not matter two hoots in the end...

Phil - It would be more, but who's counting, right[;^)]

It quite possibly could be[:p] The truth is I stopped counting about 10 years ago[(#)]

Speaking of supercars...I wonder what sort of 0-100kph times these cars do...they'd need to be sub 3.0sec to beat a Cossie powered Small Ford[;^)]

Wick Car Mark good to see another cover for you!!

It is always funny looking back at the costs of a car. An escort is always a budget build project at the start costing $x as everyone has a different budget. However all of a sudden you start to rebuilding on the rebuild like you both(Phil/everyone)and then throw in a new or differnt engine and then you add up the costs of it all over the years and you say...."holy Shiv".

I keep a log book of everything and added it all up last year and fell off my chair. So I divided it by the years I have owned it and remember it is a hobbie and I was happy with that figure.

In the future I think we should build one car and then rebuild another just to keep the population of good Escorts up there. However I see garage/storage space being the next problem![%]

...Thank heavens for mates, work, and mates rates - one off custom gear would be too difficult to organise...The magazine wanted the cost to be small, but I have spent more than they state over 8 years. If I know what I do now and just built it as is again today, it would not be a silly figure, but then I'd miss all of the fun of sweating it out, late nights, design and drawing, swearing, spanner rash and bleeding to earn the right to drive the car[;^)]

I love to see another small ford driving along, so the suggestion to do up more than one is a positive step...For me no space, and a second project is beyond consideration...
