Hi guys,

I've put a pair of (Girling) Volvo 4 spot callipers and 258mm vented Celica discs on my Capri. I've found the braking to be really impressive but would like to put a better master cylinder on as the pedal just dosn't feel a firm as i would like.

I've researched heaps of forums etc on them but have found people are putting master cylinders on that need to be modified quite a bit or just don't look right.

I want to keep the similar cylinder but with maby a bigger bore size? (25mm?) Are there any cars with similar cylinders that are a simple bolt on affair?
The booster is basically a V6 one, any help would be great

Hoppers stoppers has done a setup for mine with a xb falcon (1 inch bore)and centure filler top,the mods required are booster bracket adjustment, booster turned around 180 degress and brake line to suit master cylinder.can not tell you what the pedal is like in road conditions but feels very good at 20km/h.

Cheers Mr Scotto,

I was hoping to keep it as factory looking as possible. I might look into getting a XB master cylinder and putting the internals into a Capri master cylinder? Don't know if that can be done but i'll ask around
I heard about the Land Rover cylinder aswell but again you have to modify and it hasn't got that factory look.
Worst case i'll try the XB conversion, thanks for the feedback

Have heard of people using Rover SD1, and Chrysler Centura. I have a spare RS3100 one which is a Girling and fitted to a lot of UK cars so it may take boring and bigger seals

Thanks JR,

I'm looking into a possible match. It's a Granada MC and apparantly the bore is bigger and it bolts straight onto a Mk1 booster.

Will let you know how i get on

I have used a volvo 240 master cylinder without a booster on my rally car. This is a stepped arrangement with I think a 15.86mm front circuit and a 22.22mm rear. This works very well in my application as I am running VN front callipers on the rear.

Front rotors are the TX3 turbo jobbies and the rears are Evo 4 rear rotors. I also have used a proportioning valve for fine turning and balance.

Happy to help if anyone wants more info on this conversion.

Thanks
Craig

Sounds like a good setup Craig but i was hoping to keep it looking semi original.
Have you got a pic of the master cylinder at all? The 240 was the Volvo my callipers are from. I wounder if it bolts onto a Capri booster?

Hi Guys,

I've had these brakes on for about 2 months now and after bleeding them about 3 times now i can honestly say that this brake setup is heaps better than std.

The pedal feel is heaps better now after a few bleeds and i won't be needing a master cylinder as the factory one feels really good now.

I supose the pads and disc's have settled in too which helps.

Thanks for all the feedback

Hi, i was going to suggest using a TE/TF Cortina master cyl, they're just about right for Volvo 4spots..i've had this combo running for 9yrs!! i recently removed the vacuum unit and changed pivot angles on the pedal rod..firm but easy , cheers. Marty
