Hey all,

Recently had the outer bearing cease and literally weld itself to the wheel stub axle on the front right. I have given up trying to break parts off the stub as I would never trust the reliabilty.

Was wondering if anyone knows where to get a new wheel stub and are they easy to re-fit around the strut housing?

Thanks as always,
Yan

Yan, the stubs are not removeable from the strut housing. Best off to get another strut and swap everything over. Is that what caused the problem on Sunday?

Cheers, Craig.

Hi Craig,

Thanks for the reply, was great meeting you guys the other weekend. That was indeed what caused the prob during the run, it must of generated some pretty crazy heat to weld itself to the stub once it failed! I will look for a replacement strut and from what I have been told the strut diameter is diff from 2ltr to 1.6 and diff again from Aust to Uk for the hub and caliper.

Thanks,
Yan

As your car was a Ghia with a 2ltr, it should have the Aussie 2L struts in it. The diameter of the tube is 51mm I think. Shouldn't be too hard to find but if you have any dramas I have a few kicking around here. Let me know how you go.
Also, when you get new wheelbearings, don't settle for the chinese rubbish that the parts suppliers give you. Tell them you want a bearing that is made in Japan.

Cheers, Craig.
