So the temp/fuel guage in my Mk1 esky has never really worked which bit me on the ass the other day n overheated -anyway Im assuming the voltage stabiliser is to blame however I have a spare dash (2 indicators lights opposed to one) which is wired slightly different with no space for the stabilizer.workshop manual says it needs one but the wirining is very different.
 
My question is does the (im assuming late) mk1 dash not need a stabilizer? Are you able to buy new ones of these or does anyone have a working spare? i put it on the multimeter & the resistance is bouncing around everywhere so im assuming the one i got is no good.

It is very hard to get a reading from a voltage stabiliser as they work very similar to a old flasher can, they both use a bimetalic strip to make and break contact. I read an artical some time ago that basicly says just chuck it and fit a transistotised one from jaycar or dick smith. they have 3 wires, 12v in. 10v out and an earth. havent done it myself as I found an old unit that worked.

Ordered & tried out a transitor type - very simple just soldered 12v in 10v out & earth. Cost $3 for two from memory def an easy fix -Pt no.  KA7810
